The Creative Process in Movement:
Embodiment through the visual tool of Transformational Body Tracings

We invite all interested professionals to particpate in the summer intensive of Biosoft Institute!
Creativity is an intrinsic part not only of Dance therapist’s work, but any helping professional. How creative process is embodied and expressed in the movement? How in therapy we can address both embodiment and creative process? How therapist can develop her own embodiment and its connection to imagination and creativity?
Marcia Plevin , dance/movement therapist and co-founder of the Creative Movement and Dance Garcia-Plevin Method will introduce a particular visual tool used in Creative Movement training to support the growth of embodiment: the full body outline- named as Transformational Body Tracing (TBT). Use of the TBT can be found in various clinical and educational settings.
The aim of the creative movement experiences, will be to enable students to explore their personal creative freedom and what may be their boundaries to this freedom..
Principles from R.Laban’s effort shape theory and P. Hackney’s book Making Connections will be applied within the creative movement processes.
In the seminar programme:
- The creation of an aesthetic diary where recognition and transformations will be “ journaled” through out the days of the seminar deepening the embodiment process;
- Integration of expressive and perceptive functions of the body. Becoming embodied movers involves a bidirectional process where action and perception feed into each other;
- Understanding through a reflective process. In the process of developing body consciousness the student will go between moving, attending to the experience, opening the senses, listening to inner impulses and enacting them. The experience is further integrated upon reflection which may be writing or poem making.
Thus it is a circular process, a feedback loop of action, perception and reflection.
We will also explore how important elements of the body sense emerge and mature in the process of finding visual expression in the TBTs.
About the tutor: Marcia Plevin, is an American , a former dancer,dhoreographer and dance teacher who has lived in Rome for many years. Psychologist and dance movement therapist she is a BC- DMT ( board certified American DMT ) an NCC , American counsellor and Italian delegate to the European Dance therapy Association. She has a clinical and supervision practice in Rome and establishes and teaches groups of Authentic Movement internationally. She presently trains dance movement therapists In Italy, China and Turkey. Her article “ Portals of Transformation: Authentic Movement and Performance” is published in the book Handbook for Dance and Well- Being, Oxford University Press, London 2017. Creative Movement and Dance,( 2011) written by M. Plevin, M. Garcia and P. Macagno has been published in Italian, France and Turkish.
The seminar will take place within the Summer Intensive of the International Professional DMT Training Programme of biosoft Institute from 22nd until 27th of August in Art Residence Rizoma ( Berdychev, Ukraine). The participants also can attend morning in the evening classes lead by other programme turtors. That will help to integrate the experience in the best way. Of course there will be a lot of informal activities and enough time for rest and leisure. The whole athnmosphere of the residence not just offers lodging and meals but also inspires and stimulates imagination.
The costs of the intensive are 320 euro.
