> We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student to join our research on plant metabolism and cell walls. In this project you will perform pioneering work to unravel biochemical mechanisms responsible for carbon allocation to cell walls with the applied goal of increasing feedstock biomass. You will use both Arabidopsis and aspen as model systems. You will have the opportunity to be trained in state-of-the-art techniques in plant genetics, plant molecular biology, biochemistry, cell wall analysis and microscopy, as well as scientific thinking and writing.

The position will benefit from close interaction with the Swedish strategic research effort Bio4Energy (www.bio4energy.se) which includes leading research environments at Umeå University, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Luleå University, Innventia and the industry cluster Processum in Örnsköldvik. This gives you the exciting possibility to be part of an interdisciplinary network, where you are exposed to research along the whole value chain from plant feedstocks to a product.

Knowledge in molecular biology techniques and/or flux analysis is a merit and good English is a requirement. In addition you have an enthusiastic can-do attitude and an enquiring and creative mind.
