Tutorial Title: The Virtual Cell - a web-based environment for
compartmental
and spatial modeling of cell biological events.

Organized by: Les Loew, John Wagner, Jim Schaff, Boris Slepchenko and Ion
Moraru, National Resource For Cell Analysis and Modeling, U. Conn. Health
Center.

Description: The Virtual Cell is a software environment to enable cell
biologists and biophysicists to build and test complex hypotheses.
Numerical
methods for both single point (i.e. compartment) models and spatial models
are provided as part of the infrastructure. Spatial models can be based on
geometries derived from microscope images. The model building and
simulation
tools are accessible over the WWW via a server at the University of
Connecticut Health Center. The development of this technology is supported
by the NIH/NCRR and is free to all academic users. The tutorial will
consist
of an introduction, results from several example simulations, and a
demonstration of the user interface.

Time: Monday, 2/14/00, 8:30-10:00AM

Place: New Orleans Convention Center, Room 211
