Date: August 31, 1995

The annual meeting of the Western Section, AFCR will be held February 14-17, 1996 in
Carmel, California. Please note the following;

( A Young Investigator Award, supported by the AFCR Foundation, will be presented by
the
Western Section, AFCR for an outstanding abstract by a junior faculty member
(instructor or
assistant professor level). The abstract should be accompanied by the individual's CV
and a
letter of nomination from the candidate's Section Chief or Chairman attesting to the
significance of the work.

( The Upjohn Award for Excellence in Infectious Disease Research will once again be
offered
by the Western Section, AFCR. Candidates must be AFCR members and have a
faculty
appointment at the level of instructor or assistant professor and the research must
have been
performed independently.

( The Western Section, AFCR and the Western Society for Clinical Investigation(WSCI)
will
offer awards for outstanding research performed by postdoctoral fellows and
students. The
abstract should report work done primarily by the applicant for the award.

In all cases, the status of the candidate must be clearly marked on the letter of
transmittal and the appropriate box must be checked on the abstract sticker form.

( Abstracts for the Carmel meeting must be received on or before October 4, 1995. For

( There is no preregistration for the meeting. Registration headquarters will again be
located in
Room 10 of the Sunset Center on San Carlos between 8th and 9th. A message
center will be
available for emergency calls at 408-624-9892.

( You must make your own housing arrangements. A map of Carmel with addresses
and
phone numbers of available hotels is enclosed. Please contact your hotel choice
directly.
Arrangements should be made as soon as possible since rooms fill up early and
accommodations are uncertain if made after 1/1/96.

( CME credits will be available at the time of registration for a fee of $30.00.

( The program and abstracts will be published in the January/February issue of the
Journal of
Investigative Medicine supplement and will be mailed prior to the meeting. Addition
copies
will be available for purchase at the registration desk.
