A postdoctoral research fellow position is available in my lab at the
US Dairy Forage Research Center on the University of Wisconsin campus
in Madison, WI. The main focus of this project will be to elucidate
the role of UDP-xylose synthase and/or other sugar nucleotide pathway
enzymes in alfalfa cell wall assembly using molecular biology and
biochemistry approaches, with the ultimate goal of improving cell wall
digestibility. Side projects with high publication potential involving
enzymology, specialized metabolism, and bioinformatics are also
available for the candidate to round out her or his expertise. The US
Dairy Forage Research Center is a unique multidisciplinary research
center examining the intersection of crops, cows, and environment, and
so will provide the candidate with a broad perspective on the dairy
agroecosystem and whole farm agriculture. Candidates should have a PhD
in life sciences with a background in molecular biology, genetics,
and/or biochemistry. The position will be administered through the Oak
Ridge Institute for Science and Education, through which a stipend and
allowance for health insurance will be paid. Appointment is for 1
year, with renewal of at least an additional year possible. For
additional information, contact Dr. Michael Sullivan,
michael....@ars.usda.gov.
