Hi everyone- I've received zero applications from US citizens or permanent residents to date for a travel award to attend ICAR 2019.
Therefore, the competition for the up to 15 awards is currently quite slim!

You will have a good chance to be selected, if you fill out the award applications and submit the letter of reference by the due date of 28 January.
(notifications will be sent by end of the day Wed 30 January so you can register for the early bird fee on Thurs Jan 31, or Friday 2/1)

Please apply!
First check your eligibility: To be eligible, only US citizens and permanent residents of the US are eligible to apply (NSF guidelines) and must be enrolled in their graduate program, in a postdoc title, or junior faculty (within first 2 years of first appointment) at the time of the conference **and** must present a poster or talk at the meeting.

**All applications (complete with letter of support, including affirming additional financial support) are due no later than Jan 28, 2019.**

The 30th International Conference on Arabidopsis Research (ICAR 2019) is taking place in Wuhan, China on June 16th-21st, 2019.
http://icar2019.arabidopsisresearch.org/

The North American Arabidopsis Steering Committee (NAASC) has funding from the US National Science Foundation (NSF) to provide up to 15 travel awards of $1,000 USD* each to support the participation of US-based PhD students, Postdoctoral Scholars (in postdoc title), and Junior Faculty* (within first 2 years of first faculty appointment) in this exciting international meeting.

If you are interested in applying for these awards please contact the NAASC Executive Director- Joanna Friesner- after reviewing eligibility, below, and she will provide you with an application form and instructions.

jdfri...@ucdavis.edu

**The deadline for submitting the application form is January 28th.** We will inform successful applicants within 2 days so that they can register for the meeting at the cheapest rate of $350-$550 (early-bird registration ends February 1st, at 7:59 am Pacific Standard Time/10:59 am Eastern Standard Time). This will allow students, postdocs, and junior faculty to apply who absolutely require the $1,000 award to attend the meeting.

To be eligible, only US citizens and permanent residents of the US are eligible to apply (NSF guidelines) and must be enrolled in their graduate program, in a postdoc title, or junior faculty (within first 2 years of first appointment) at the time of the conference **and** must present a poster or talk at the meeting.

IMPORTANT: At the time of application, applicants must provide a reference letter from their advisor/supervisor/department chair which also confirms that they have other financial support to attend the conference as the full conference cost is estimated to cost a minimum of approximately $2,000 per person (and may be higher, depending on where you are traveling from in the US.)

We are not able to provide the travel funds directly. Successful candidates will be provided with the award as a reimbursement following the conclusions of ICAR 2019 once evidence of registration to the meeting and poster/talk abstract submission, as well as a completed University travel reimbursement form are provided. We can provide successful applicants with a funding commitment letter in advance, if requested.

Once again if this is of interest please contact Joanna Friesner (jdfri...@ucdavis.edu) to obtain an application form and instructions.

*Eligibility: All applicants are responsible for securing their necessary travel passports and visas, if applicable. NAASC does not assist in obtaining travel documents and award funding cannot be used for this either. Funds can be used to defray costs of valid meeting participation expenses (e.g. registration, lodging, travel following NSF guidelines. Information will be sent to awardees.)
