Very Urgent,
A postdoctoral position is available in Lyon (France) for one year starting
from September 2000. The project deals with symbiotic bacterial
interactions with the insect host, the weevil Sitophilus.
Sitophilus harbors an intracellular symbiotic bacterium that interacts with
the host metabolism and physiology. Both insect and bacteria are intimately
dependent and cannot survive separately. The insect controls the
localization and the density of the bacterium, and the latter induces
specifically the differentiation of specialized insect cell called
bacteriocytes that protect the bacterium from the insect immunity. The
molecular mechanism that results in the bacteriocyte differentiation is not
known but should involve molecular signals exchanges between both partners.
The aim of the project is to identify, by RT-PCR Display (using the GENOMYX
apparatus) on symbiotic and aposymbiotic insect, genes that are involved in
cell differentiation.
Currently, the research group is composed of an Assistant Professor, an
assistant-Engineer, one technician, two students and myself.
The position is awarded by the French Ministry of Research. Salary range is
1850 Euros, which is very convenient for one or two persons in Lyon. Ph.D.
Students that have a good experience on Molecular Biology are invited to
send, as soon as possible, a detailed Curriculum Vitae, a publication list,
as well as a motivation letter to Dr. A. Heddi, UMR INRA/INSA-Lyon
'Biologie, Fonctionnelle, Insectes et Interactions', By Fax ((33) 4 72 43
85 34) or by E-mail.(

- Should have prepared his (or her) Ph.D. in other country than France
- Should be from the following countries: Canada, Australia, China, South
Korea, India, USA, Israel, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Switzerland, Turkey,
