- Scientific and naturalistic illustrations: Generalities and
comparis on.
- Scientific illustration versus photography.
- General dra wing workflow.
- Sketching and approaches to naturalistic illustratio n.
- Drawing basics: Halftone rendering, textures, transparency object
shadows, reflected light and cast shadows.
- Drawing tools an d media:
* Line and ink: Basic techniques, rendering styles, scrat chboard.
* Pencil: Basic techniques, coloured pencils, watercoloured pencils, examples.
* Water colour.
* Camera lucida (procedure a nd practical examples).
- Graphite rendering.
- Field ske tching (naturalistic illustration).
- Introduct ion to computer graphics.
- Bitmap graphics software: Main tools, lay er workflow.
- Chromatic diagrams, bit depth, colour models and chann els, image
corrections.
- Vectorial vs. bitmap drawing.
- Vecto rial graphics software: Bezier-curve drawing, pattern
filling, examples.
- Examples and subjects of scientific illustration.
* Illustra ting plants, animals and geological features.
* Illustrating animals in their habitats.
* Palaeoecological reconstruction.
The course material is included in the course fee.
This course is co-org anized by Transmitting Science and the Institut
Catalá de Paleontologi a M. Crusafont. Place are limited and will be
