Sorry Edward Bulwer-Lytton but the sword is far mightier than any pen in Conan Exiles. One-handed blades are particularly useful as they leave one hand open for potential shield use. It's hard to turn down a strong sword when trying to survive and thrive in Conan's rough and tumble world.

While it can be hard to pick the perfect weapon, some one-handed swords stand out above the rest. Some deal more damage while others can pierce even the thickest armor. Those that can track down the best blades will find their enemies lying at defeated far more easily than ever before.

It's more of a kopis or a large cutting knife than a sword but it decapitates and dismembers just as well. The Sword of N'Ruka is a pretty weapon that can double as a luxury item due to its gold hue.

On top of the decent stabbing and slashing stats, this sword also grants the wielder a +5 to Grit, making them extra resilient to fatigue. It won't let wielders kill their enemies the fastest but the weapon is easy to acquire so the modest late game damage is excused.

Size is never indicative of the performance, which is why those who judged the Argossean Short Sword are probably either dead or enslaved by now. Despite having the same conservative damage numbers as the Sword of N'Ruka, the Argossean Short Sword has way higher penetration.

That's a fitting stat for it as the sword was made to be an equivalent of the Roman Empire's Gladius, which was made for quick jabbing actions from behind a shield. It's also light and quite durable. Players will need the Architects of Argos Pack DLC for this one.

Whoever the Grey Ones are in Conan Exiles, players ought to thank them for giving inspiration to one of the most competitive swords in the game. They're apparently, the discreet aliens of the game's lore and thus, the weapon derived from their materials is weird.

For one, the Sword of the Grey Ones, lore-wise, has strange markings and growths in its blade. Do note that this one is just an imitation of the actual stuff that the Grey Ones used and is made with human hands. The damage is high but the penetration is modest.

The Titan's Fingernail stays true to its name when it comes to stats as the weapon is powerful enough to deal with most enemies that wear heavy armor. Despite the less-than-classy name though, the Titan's Fingernail is actually a pretty weapon and doesn't look like a behemoth's overgrown talons.

The armor penetration comes in a whopping 17.87 percent-- one of the highest in the game and the damage isn't too far off from the game's top blades either. The weapon does only come from the Isle of Siptah DLC.

If players don't like the moniker given to the Titan's Fingernail or find its stats a little wanting, then the Sword of the Reaver might be a better choice. It has the same damage and armor penetration as the Titan's Fingernail but comes in with a dizzying number of player stat bonuses.

Then again, all those bonus stat boosts from the Sword of the Reaver might be unwarranted. Some players simply want big damage with no gimmicks and additional clutter that might as well be empty promises.

The Guardsman's Sword is better than the Sword of the Reaver in that regard. It has slightly higher damage (by about 3) and has the same armor penetration. In a game with combat as precarious as Conan Exile's, these extra three points of damage can add up well to a life-saving amount.

Speaking of higher damage, then the Black Ice Broadsword might also be a better choice than any previous items. It's a sword made out of ice, thus making it an apt weapon for a cold-blooded killer, figuratively speaking.

Black Ice Broadsword's damage is slightly higher than that of Guardsman's Sword. It does come with a tradeoff of having significantly lower armor penetration. But hey, it's a sword made out of ice, that's only fair.

If damage is all a player wants, then they shouldn't lower their standards if those standards are anything close to the Voidforge Gladius. It's also a DLC weapon from the Isle of Siptah, like the Guardsman's Sword and the Sword of the Reaver.

The difference is that it has a whopping 73 damage but the same second-highest armor penetration as the abovementioned swords. That already makes it the most appealing weapon requiring Eldarium to craft.

The Shortsword of the Grey Ones is more valuable and more powerful than the normal Sword of the Grey Ones. It has double the amount of that sword's armor penetration at 18 percent, making it more ideal for heavily shielded or armored enemies.

That makes it the sharpest weapon in this game as the one with the highest penetration. Moreover, the damage is insane at 78, making it preferable to the regular sword version. The range might be a problem though as it's shorter.

The armor penetration leaves much to be desired compared to shortswords but adding more to that kind of damage would be overkill at that point. Obtaining this blade is a tall order, however, as it's guarded by a big red dragon boss monster.

It is now up to you to survive. Your most basic needs are food and water. Without a steady supply you will not last long in the harsh environment. Make your way out of the deep desert and into more fertile lands. You will soon discover a river valley where water is plentiful and you can scavenge the underbrush for things to eat.

Danger lurks in this environment, so your goal should be to defend yourself. Gather resources from the land to make simple tools, weapons and clothes to be ready to fight the creatures who want to tear you limb from limb. Harvest flesh from the animals you kill, and cook the raw meat over a fire before eating.

Clothes and weapons will not save you from the powerful sandstorms which plague the Exiled Lands however. When a storm hits you will need to find shelter or inevitably be torn to shreds by the powerful winds.

If you are able to master the basics of survival you will progress and become stronger as you level up. Unlock more and more recipes so you can make better weapons, improved armor and stronger buildings. You can also improve your attributes like health, stamina, encumbrance, might and many more.

Soon you will need to travel deep into the exiled lands to find rarer and more powerful reagents like dust from a Stygian tomb or the blood of a demonic creature. The deeper you travel into these harsh lands the more dangerous they become. Terrible creatures like sand reapers, giant scorpions, and huge spiders roam the land. There are even hushed tales of dragons told around exile campfires.

As you explore you will discover many mysteries and ancient secrets hidden in the desert. Find clues from the past in deep caves, crumbling ruins and massive dungeons. The cruel demons and relentless undead which lurk in these dark places are only part of the danger. Beware of the insidious and corrupting presence of dark magic as it will weaken you over time.

Tribes, bandits, mercenaries, pirates, and other lowlife scum all call the Exiled Lands their home, but if you are playing on a player vs. player server the most dangerous threat to survival will be your fellow players.

They can hunt you down wherever you are and smash your houses into the ground. Building strong defenses may not be enough to save you so the greatest defense is working together with others and forming a clan.

Together you can build castles or even whole villages. You can further bolster your defenses by capturing NPCs and turn them into thralls on the Wheel of Pain. Thralls can defend your walls as archers, help you craft more powerful equipment, or help you recover from the rigors of battle as entertainers.

The powerful sorcerer, Mek-Kamoses, has received a vision and has charged you with collecting a mysterious new resource for his ritual: Blood Crystals. When the ancient Giant Kings fell, it is said their blood seeped into the earth, where it remained for aeons, spreading beneath the world through ever-flowing rivers of molten rock.

After eons, the blood has cooled and hardened into crystals. At long last, it rises from the depths, charged with forces potent enough to animate the land itself. Seek out and slay these new creatures to tear the crystals from their bodies.

Mek-Kamoses is not the only one who can use them. Speak to Master Carver Huang who stands close to Mek-Kamoses at his spire (or Camp of the Castaways on Isle of Siptah) to take your first step into the mystical art of Golem Shaping.

The material you choose for each of these parts has a huge impact on the golem itself. The most basic golem can be crafted with stone while the most powerful golem is pure blood crystal. All golem parts, even those of stone, require some blood crystals to craft. More powerful and specialized golem parts can be found as loot throughout the game, while a few recipes can be acquired with knowledge points and crafted. Some parts are even sold by Master Carver Huang for blood crystals, although his stock is always changing.

Your golem may lack a soul, but it can pack a punch. By default, your golem will follow and defend you, using whatever weapon you have given it. To order it to collect a certain material, place that material in its inventory, and if that material exists within a certain area, and it has the required tool equipped, your golem will autonomously begin to harvest it.

Deep customization comes into play with special body slots. Craft the Lightning Rod Guardian Head and watch as your golem harnesses the power of lightning storms to destroy your enemies. Or make the Lotus Burner Guardian Torso to provide a buff around your golem depending on the lotus you burn in it.

Your golem can also be coated in either brimstone or tar in the construction phase. Both golems will fight enemies normally but in addition, a brimstone golem will choke enemies that hit it with a gaseous cloud, while a tar golem will create pools of tar on the ground that can be ignited. Throw a fire orb at a golem surrounded by enemies, then watch it stride out of a pile of bodies.

An important aspect of Golem Shaping is that Golems cannot be healed, and damage they take over time will eventually and irreversibly break it down. Golem Shaping is a craft that you will return to again, crafting new combinations of Golems each time.
