Dear friends

While our previous discussions are still fresh in our heads I would like to start planning the upcoming meeting in Stavanger.
The dates for the Stavanger meeting is set to February 16.-17. 2018

Please let me know soon how many of you intend to come over so I can continue developing the plan :)

I would suggest a rough preliminary sketch for the program here:

Friday 16.February
Lets get wet and glowing
12:00 - 15:00 Workshop on Bioluminescence - Place: Creator Makerspace (tbc)
Exploring and learning; Photobacterium phosphoreum or Vibrio phosphoreum is a Gram-negative bioluminescent bacterium living in symbiosis with marine organisms. It can emit bluish-green light (490 nm) due to a chemical reaction between FMN, luciferin and molecular oxygen catalysed by an enzyme called luciferase. We will work on obtaining some of these bacteria cultures from collected sea creatures and learn how to cultivate them. The workshop will take place in Biolab - a DIY lab facilitated by i/o/lab in collaboration with Creator Makerspace.

Break : transport to the city and time for food

So it glows - now what?
18:00 - 20:00  - Place: i/o/lab Studio, Tou Scene
Presentations from researchers (tbc) and an open discussion that aims to look at the ethical, practical and artistic use of bioluminescent organisms in a creative practice and for exhibition purpose. Artists have used various glowing organisms in their projects and also projects as GlowPlant and Dino Pet has presented some issues of concern when it comes to use of living organisms for creative and commercial use. How may living organisms be integrated into a creative practice, why is this interesting and are we entitled to do so?

Saturday 17.February
Nordic DIYbio Network meeting
12:00 - 15:00 - Place: i/o/lab Studio, Tou Scene
The network and invited affiliates will continue discussions from previous meetings and enjoy a common lunch.
(Do send in suggestions for topics or if there are specific questions to be discussed/answered.)

Break : dinner downtown

Art Science & Cocktails
18:00 - 20:00 Talks / Presentations of artists and scientists - Place: TBC
This is a social event where we blend the practices and points of interests from both art and science and mix the experience up with adding an exquisite cocktail menu.
A selected group of artists and scientists are invited to give a 15 min (max!!) presentation each including visuals.

Book early flights with Norwegian here: www.norwegian.no
I can organize with accommodation in shared apartments as soon as I know how many of you will come over and when you are coming :)

Best
Hege

Some of us should go, we are part of the network and it's great people. If no one internal is interested, then I suggest we send it out to our broader community of designers artist ect. Maybe someone there wants to join?
