Subject: Bioinformatics Club Monday at 12:00PM -- "IDEA Analytics Platform: Big Data and Hadoop at Partner"
Dear all,
This Monday we will have Edana Merchan, Data scientist from Partners to introduce the IDEA Analytics Platform - the new platform designed for big data and machine learning.
Time: Nov 20th, 12:00 - 1:00 pm
Place: BTM - 9004 conference room
About IDEA platform:
The IDEA Analytics platform is designed to perform complex analytics and data transformations across large and diverse data sets in a secure and reliable way. The platform provides research teams access to a range of open-source tools,
including Hadoop and Spark, hosted on a highly scalable infrastructure specifically designed for large analytics workloads. In addition to well-known Hadoop applications such as Pig, Hive, and HBase, specialized machine learning and natural language processing
tools are also integrated into the solution. The platform will be presented together with a demo on how to use it with PySpark in Jupiter and SparklyR in RStudio.
About Edana Merchan:
Edana Merchan, Data Science Tools and Applications Engineer in the Scientific Computing Department of ERIS at Partners Healthcare. Before joining the Scientific Computing team she was working in research as a physicist, developing new software and doing data
management to be used in the discovery of new elements. Her experience with science and data let her become a data scientist, now supporting all Partners researchers to develop their projects with new tools, to keep up with the upcoming technologies and deal
with the massive amount of data produced daily.
It will be a 30min presentation + demo/QA for the rest of the time.
