We seek an exceptional candidate to join the Computational Chemistry and Bioinformatics group at Alios BioPharma. The candidate must be a highly motivated self-starter and team player who performs well in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment. The candidate will report to the Group Leader, Computational Chemistry and Bioinformatics, and their main responsibility will be to conduct a comprehensive scope of bioinformatics and computational activities supporting discovery and development stage oligonucleotide therapeutics projects. Hands-on experience with data mining, sequence processing, in silico design, structure prediction and free energy calculation for nucleic acid constructs is required. Expert knowledge of Unix/Linux, Perl/Python, vi, sed, object-oriented programming language(s), leading-edge software packages relevant to the nucleic acids field, as well as the ability to create custom code to address specific research tasks is a must. Experience with database management, SQL, and Linux system administration is a plus. Advanced understanding of biological pathways relevant to oligonucleotide therapeutics is highly desirable. Ability to initiate and carry out project-driven research with minimal supervision, as well as accomplished communication skills, including clear and efficient presentation of their own work to a diverse group of experts is required. Proven productivity track record in an academic or industrial setting is expected.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. in bioinformatics/cheminformatics, theoretical or computational chemistry, or a related field with 2+ years of relevant post-doctoral experience in an academic or industrial setting is required. Publication/patent record backing up a productive research track is a definite plus.
