Dear BioHackathon 2024 participants,

We apologize for the short notice, but we kindly ask you to prepare a single self-introduction slide for the workshop on the first day.

This email is being sent to the BioHackathon mailing list and Bcc'd to all participants to ensure everyone receives it. If you happen to receive this message more than once, please bear with us.

## WORKSHOP

The workshop will be held on Sunday, August 25th, at the “Grandpark Excel Hotel Ebisu” in Fukushima city.

* Hotel Info: https://www.expedia.com/Fukushima-Hotels-GRANDPARK-HOTEL-EXCEL-FUKUSHIMA-EBISU.h30010647.Hotel-Information

* Map: https://maps.app.goo.gl/YMUJLNoGgqQs64yL7

Please arrive and complete registration between 12:30 and 13:00. The event will kick off at 13:00 with a Kagura performance by the city of Fukushima. Don't miss it!

## Self-Introduction Slides

We will be using self-introduction slides during the workshop. This will help everyone get to know your background and interests, fostering better collaboration throughout the event. Therefore, we kindly ask even those who will not be attending the workshop to create a self-introduction slide. Please complete your slide before the workshop begins on Sunday.

* Slide: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1xd8kZl2W4FX82SRbVTeOy1eQy6dirBmiF-1rV1jjMmI/edit?usp=sharing

Feel free to adjust the template to suit your style, but we encourage you to at least include the following information:

  - Your name, organization (if any), and country
  - A nice photo of yourself
  - Your field of study or work, and your skills or areas of expertise
  - Any message you'd like to share with others

## Checklist

We’ve put together a checklist to assist with your travel preparations:

1. Passport and Visa: Please ensure your travel documents are in order. If you require a visa, make sure you’ve applied for and received it before your departure.

2. Transportation: After landing in Tokyo (Haneda or Narita Airport), you can take a Shinkansen to Fukushima, which is about a 90-minute ride. The fare is approximately 10,000 yen. Tickets can be purchased at the English-speaking and credit card-friendly vending machines near the Shinkansen gates at Tokyo Station or at the adjacent ticket desk. You can also buy tickets online via the following site:

* Online ticket: https://www.eki-net.com/en/jreast-train-reservation/Top/Index

3.Weather: While the days can be quite warm, the mornings and evenings can be pleasantly cool, so please come prepared. Also, there is a possibility of sudden rain, so we kindly suggest bringing an umbrella.

4. Laundry: We have three washing machines available at the venue for your convenience.

5. Cash: Although many places in Japan accept credit cards, some do not. We recommend carrying around 10,000 yen in cash for small purchases and emergencies. If you ordered a Hackathon T-shirt, the price is 2,000 yen per shirt. Please pay in cash.

6. Contact: If you have any concerns or questions, please contact us at:

  - BH24 Organizer: +81-80-1113-4923
  - Grandpark Hotel Excel Fukushima Ebisu: +81-24-533-4166

## Additional Notes

To our international friends: If you have a little extra space in your suitcase, we’d love for you to bring along your favorite local liquor. As this BioHackathon is funded by tax money, unfortunately, we can't use our budget for alcohol. It’s always exciting to try new things!

Future Communications: We will be sending further communications via this mailing list or Slack. If you haven’t already, please make sure to register using the following links:

* Subscribe to the BioHackathon mailing list (Google groups) at http://groups.google.com/group/biohackathon if you haven’t yet.

* Join the BioHackJP Slack at https://join.slack.com/t/biohackjp/shared_invite/zt-2jw2ijltt-YZzyAWknk_yIKPthgBQXUg if you haven’t yet.

We look forward to seeing you soon. Safe travels to Fukushima!

Best regards,
BioHackathon 2024 organizers
