Dear BioHackathon 2013 invitees and participants,

Invitees, you will receive a mail from our travel agency asking for your bank account.
This year, as we wanted to avoid paying your expenses at the registration, we decided
to use bank transfer for the payments. We organizers are outsourcing the service to the
Prima Tours Inc. So please don't surprise about the mail.

On arrival, please take a train from the Narita airport and/or taxi for checking-in to your
hotel (the Hotel Forest Hongo) by yourself. Organizers will meet you at the hotel lobby
on Sunday morning (9:30AM, June 23rd) and guide you to the symposium venue, Tokyo Skytree.
You'll have some free time for sightseeing and lunch before the symposium starts.

On 2013/05/18, at 1:13, Peter Cock <p.j.a...@googlemail.com> wrote:

We will enjoy liqourthon again at night as a tradition of our BioHackathon series.
Because the BioHackathon has been hosted by public institutions, we can't provide
drinks by our budget. Instead, we had enjoyed sharing liquors kindly brought by
participants from across the globe. Organizers are planning to prepare SPARQLing
Japanese rice wines for this year. We hope you'll enjoy.

Some recent updates:

* I forgot to inform but our BH11-12 paper is submitted to the JBMS thematic series last week
* We already counted largest number of participants than the past (getting too big to organize?!)
* Symposium poster and the detailed time-line is now available at
http://2013.biohackathon.org/gallery
http://2013.biohackathon.org/symposium
* Skytree visit to the middle level will cost 1,800 JPY (and additional 1,000 JPY to the top on site)
* We'll have a banquet on Monday evening at the conference discount rate 2,000 JPY
* Limited number of BH13 T-shirts will be available on site upon request (about 2,000 JPY)

For invitees and applicants, please bring Japanese cash 1,800 JPY for the Skytree and
2,000 JPY for the banquet at the registration desk on Sunday.

For domestic participants, we are planning to send out a confirmation mail of your
registration by the end of May.

Best regards,
Toshiaki Katayama

Dear all,

== For non-participants ==

Hopefully, we'll have a live video streaming of the symposium on this Sunday (13:30-17:30 JST) at

http://2013.biohackathon.org/documents/symposium

and you may also find a live coverage on Twitter with the #biohack13 hashtag.

== For invited participants ==

I hope everything is OK with you and you are getting ready for the BioHackathon 2013.

Most of invited participants will depart tomorrow and arrive in Japan on Saturday,
so please watch out for the news on the Typhoon No.4 (Leepi) which is approaching to
the Tokyo area over this Friday to Saturday. As the typhoon is relatively weak,
we hope it won't affect your arrival.

We are also hoping the typhoon will go away by Sunday so that we can enjoy a view
from the Skytree otherwise..... Please cross your fingers.

If you have any problem, please mail to the organizers at 2013-...@biohackathon.org
or call to the DBCLS staff +81-80-1113-4923 (call 080-1113-4923 from any domestic phones).

Don't forget to
* backup your PC before you leave :)
* bring AC adaptors (100V US style power plug) and cables depends on your gadgets
* prepare rain gears as it's a rainy season (you can buy a cheap umbrella everywhere in Tokyo though)
(and bring a bottle if you're willing to join the Liquorthon and happy to share yours with others ;)

*** See you at the Hotel Forest Hongo, 9:30AM June 23rd (Sunday morning) ***

Please finish your breakfast and prepare what you'll need during the symposium (and
the skytree tour) by 9:30AM as our bus will leave from the hotel around 9:40AM.

Have a safe trip to Japan.

== For domestic participants ==

Please visit the registration desk at the Space 634, Skytree, during 12:30-13:30 on Sunday.

Cheers,
Toshiaki Katayama

Hi all,

Is anyone taking the 1740 flight from Amsterdam to Tokyo tomorrow or arriving at around 11.55 the following day? If so, it might be useful to meet up to travel into Tokyo from the airport.

Thanks,

Dan

Since I will arrive at Haneda airport on Sat late afternoon, I wonder if you know anyone else with similar arrival schedule at haneda?

Thanks!

If the afternoon group wants to meet up for travelling to the hotel together, then we can check where to meet up via Google Talk, Twitter or email. Narita airport has free Wi-Fi: http://www.narita-airport.jp/en/guide/service/list/svc_33_wire.html

Antonio, I think we have not met. If you see a very tired white guy with dreads, then that will be me.

Hi,

hehehehehe I'll keep my eyes open (if I can). It's gonna be a long trip but really looking forward to meet you there.

Since I don't have people going to the Hackathon in my google talk account yet, I'll keep an eye to this list (too many places to keep my eyes at... hehehehehehe). Well, shall we meet in the information point of the "Narita Airport Station" (have a look the map http://www.narita-airport.jp/en/guide/map/apt1b1f.pdf)

Kevin arrives at 16:00, so I suppose we need like 30 or 45 minutes to get to the information point I mentioned. Do you all agree to meet at 16:45 - 17:00 at that point?

If there are other suggestions, I am completely opened to change the plan, this was something to start with.

See you in a "while" :)

Cheers,

Maybe it would make more sense to meet where the luggage comes, or at
the train station?

Thought so too, but we may not all arrive at the same terminal. You and I arrive at terminal 1, so does Mark, I think.

Hi,

My flight has been returned to the US due to mechanical difficulties and I don't think that I will reach Japan today. Could one of the organizers please contact the hotel and ask them to save my room?

Thank you,

Hi Kevin,

I'm sorry to hear that your flight had a trouble.
Shiho-san has already managed your hotel bookings so don't worry about your stay.

I was also informed that your flight will be changed to UA1763 which will arrive in Narita at 11:14AM on June 23rd.
Then, could you please join us at the Tokyo Skytree?

From Narita, one of the the Keisei lines is directly connected to the Oshiage station where we'll have the symposium tomorrow.

On Sunday, you can call us:
