Postdoctoral Positions at UPENN
Two postdoctoral positions in mitochondrial research are immediately
available at the Ogiso lab at the University of Pennsylvania in
Philadelphia. The project aims to investigate the proton pumping
mechanism of complex I. Experiments will be conducted on
preparations of isolated complex I from bacteria and mitochondria from
cultured cells. Techniques which will be utilized during the project
include: isolation of proteins and functional assays on bacterial
membranes, mitochondria and cells as well as isolated complex I;
enzyme kinetics; basic molecular biology; cell culture; fluorescence
imaging techniques. Expertise in structural biology, cell biology,
molecular biology, and biochemistry is desirable. An alternate
project is also available, which utilizes complex I dysfunctional cell
lines and C. elegans to investigate complex I defects and examine
their effects on mitochondrial energy metabolism in order to develop
strategies to overcome complex I dysfunction.
Highly motivated candidates with a PhD as well as individuals who are
in the process of submitting their thesis in a relevant subject area
are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates with a
proven track record in structural biology, bioenergetics and
mitochondrial physiology. Experience in in vivo imaging and
immunohistochemistry techniques is desirable. Experience in X-ray
crystallography is a plus. Proficiency in English and excellent
communication and social skills are required. Please send your CV and
a list of at least three references to:
