Post-doctoral Position – Mitochondrial Ion Channels

A post-doctoral fellowship position is available to characterize
mitochondrial ion channels involved in protection against hypoxia. To
date the project has focused on the molecular identification of
mitochondrial potassium channels in both C. elegans and mouse (see
PMIDs 20185796, 19242645, 18809388). A critical next phase is the
electrophysiological characterization of inner membrane ion channels
in their native context. To accomplish this goal, the successful
candidate will patch-clamp mitoplasts from gene-deleted organisms,
including both C. elegans and mouse.

This interdisciplinary and multiple-PI project will take advantage of
local strengths in mitochondrial physiology, ion channel biophysics,
and model organism genetics. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in an
appropriate discipline and a strong track record with publications in
the fields of electrophysiology and/or ion channel biophysics.

The University of Rochester is an equal opportunity employer.
Candidates from under-represented minorities are especially encouraged
to apply.
