Postdoctoral position investigating mitochondrial function and
dysfunction in cell models of neurodegenerative disease.

Mitochondrial dysfunction is believed to play an important role in
neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson's disease (PD) and
Huntington's disease (HD). A variety of transgenic models and stable
cell lines of these diseases are being investigated in our research
group, which is a member of several centres of excellence in
neurodegenerative disease
research. A range of novel techniques, including Seahorse
respirometry, plasma and mitochondrial membrane potential monitoring,
calcium and reactive oxygen species determination and mitochondrial
motility determinations have been recently developed to quantify
mitochondrial function in intact cells and these will be applied to
test hypotheses relating to altered function in these models. The
successful applicant must have the ability to work independently but
will have the opportunity to work with David Nicholls in developing
and applying state-of-the-art techniques to determine subtle
bioenergetic effects in these preparations.

The environment at Lund University provides excellent post-doctoral
training with state-of -the art equipment, numerous guest lectures and
possibilities to publish in high impact journals. For more information
about the group, see http://www.med.lu.se/expmed/nesu. The duration of
the position is two years with a possibility of extension.

Candidates should have an excellent track record, preferably in
bioenergetics or functional cell imaging. Experience in neuroscience
and cell culture is a plus. Candidates need to be able to communicate
well in English and be good team players.

Send your application, CV and a list of at least three references to
david.n...@med.lu.se<mailto:david.n...@med.lu.se> no later
than July 31. Starting date is as soon as possible. Only complete
applications will be considered.
