A 2-year post-doctoral research fellowship supported by the ANR
program SyBECar (System Bioenergetics of Cardiac Cell Pathology) is
available starting in the first half of 2012 in the group of Pr P. Dos
Santos (Unité de Traitement de l’Insuffisance Cardiaque (UTIC), CHU
Bordeaux and Plateforme Technologique d'Innovations Biomédicales
(PTIB), CHU Bordeaux & Bordeaux University) and Dr P. Diolez
(Rythmology and Heart Modelling Institute, IHU LiRYC and INSERM U1045,
Bordeaux Cardio-Thoracic Research Centre, CHU Bordeaux & Bordeaux
University) in collaboration with Pr V. Saks (Laboratory of
Bioenergetics, J. Fourier University, Grenoble). Research will be
conducted in the newly established laboratory (IHU LIRYC, Dir. Pr M.
Haissaguerre) and the clinical experimental platform PTIB in close
relationship with the hospital and medical teams.
The main objective of the ANR SyBECar project is the description of
the modifications in intra-cellular functional energetic units - basic
pattern of organization of muscle-cell energy metabolism - in skeletal
muscles of patients suffering from heart failure. The effect of
physical therapy on the organization of the energetic units will be
studied in close relationship with muscular strength. These studies on
muscle biopsies will be completed with oxidative stress measurements
by confocal and bi-photonic microscopy and correlated with patient
muscular physical recovery.
LiRYC associates teams in cardiology, electrophysiology, imaging and
modelisation for clinical and experimental research. Because of the
close collaboration with the medical staff, this project presents an
exciting opportunity not only to develop fundamental research at the
cellular and sub-cellular level in a brand new research institute but
to have it directly connected to patient quality of life.
In this project, the post-doctoral candidate will be responsible for
the biochemical studies of muscle biopsies from patients, including
isolated permeabilized fibres studies and mitochondrial bioenergetics.
The candidate will have a PhD in Biology or an equivalent level of
professional qualifications. It is essential that the successful
candidate has a good track record of high quality original research in
cell and/or mitochondrial energetics. Net pay is 2046 € per month.
