NOTIFICATION
No. 2008-106

Dear Madam/Sir,

The ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on
Biological Diversity (COP 9), through paragraph B.13 of decision IX/16,
requests Parties to submit views on ways to integrate biodiversity
considerations in climate change related activities.  These views will
also serve to provide relevant input into the Ad Hoc Technical Expert
Group on biodiversity and climate change, as convened in paragraph B.12
of the same decision.

Accordingly, I am pleased to request that you submit your views to the
Secretariat by 1st October 2008, either electronically to
secre...@cbd.int or via fax to +1 (514) 288-6588.

In submitting your views, I invite you to make use of the attached
template and to consider all three objectives of the Convention: the
conservation of biodiversity, the sustainable use of its components and
the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of the
utilization of genetic resources.

If you are unable to conform to the requested deadline, an additional
opportunity for the submission of views on scientific and technical
matters will take place during the on-line dialogue in preparation for
the meeting of the Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group on biodiversity and
climate change.  This on-line dialogue will take place in mid-October
2008 and additional details will follow.
