Folks,

This Sunday, BioCurious will go through a teardown of the Illumina DNA sequencer.  In observance of this event, we will cancel our routine organized meeting. However, this because this is relevant to some of the data (DNA) that we are working with, it will be a opportunity to play with a device where experimentalists collect the data that bioinformaticians process and analyze.

Some important updates.
(1) Don't miss out on the talk coming up this early May (date TBD very shortly, but most likely May 1st) by a 23AndMe scientist. Especially questions that may relate to the API and some of the limitations we might have in this. We will provide more details as soon as dates are confirmed.

(2) I just posted a survey for people to fill-out. Please give as much detail and information as possible as this will help us make appropriate adjustments and also to preserve things that seem to work well.

(3) Some more cool things are underway possibly involving in experimenting with test-kits. Still clearing some things up and will give more information this upcoming May 5th bioinfo meetup. It'll be very interesting, and we will have some data to work with assuming we can get things worked out.

(4) I would strongly encourage folks to independently brush up on their basic genetics, cell bio, & statistics background as it's difficult to cover some of the rudiments during project hours. If you need suggestions on resources, I'd be more than happy to give them.

#1 It's officially in the meetup:
http://www.meetup.com/BioCurious/events/114569672/

It's titled: "Identifying the genomic basis of human-specific traits with Cory McLean"

This is entirely relevant to our Bioinformatics work. I would highly recommend people in this community project group attend.
