Grand Challenges India (GCI) - Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) has announced a Call for Proposals on ‘Breakthrough Solutions and Cost-Disruptive Innovations for Screening and Diagnosis’ on 12^th May 2026.

This Call for Proposals seeks high-risk, high-reward innovations for screening and diagnostics, with a particular emphasis on near point-of-care and ultra-low-cost solutions that can significantly improve accessibility affordability and availability landscape at scale.

Priority Areas: - i) Tuberculosis, ii) Emerging pathogens, iii) Syndromic panels and iv) Enteric pathogens

Key Features

·         Focus on transformative innovations and solutions that rethink how screening and diagnosis are performed to meet real-world operational constraints.

·         Two funding level - i) Exploratory proposal with support up to INR50,00,000.00 ($55,000) for up to 12 months duration, and ii) Solution, innovation, product or technology proposal with support up to INR 2,00,00,000 (USD 200,000) for up to 18 months duration. Proposal should not be in ideation phase.

·         Strong emphasis on multidisciplinary partnerships and Consortia based approach

·         Support for innovators through funding, technical handholding, scale-up and deployment pathways

·         Great opportunity to collaborate and create real-world impact.

The Call is open to Indian academic and research institutions, public and private R&D organizations, start-ups, and not-for-profit foundations. Collaborations among academia, clinical institutions, and industry partners are strongly encouraged. We encourage Women-led and Industry-led proposals.
