With the results from the field, again and again it is proved that, application of biochar compost to the soils increases the yields / enhance the growth of plants. At our research center it is observed that with the addition of biochar compost (3 kgs per square meter), the cluster beans plant has grown up to 11 feet. With maximum of 20 beans in a cluster. I have not seen any records (local) yet of such magnitude. On an average the plants have grown above 9 feet. Where as the control plants (in plots without biochar compost) they have grown only 5 feet in height. Hope the farmers could produce their own fertilizers using biochar, compost plus other organic additives and increase the productivity sustainably.

Congratulations,

This in deed an excellent achievment. Plants under shade tend to grow taller (check). It will be good if it is validated with proper parameters such plant biomass, yield etc..

best wishes...

Dear Shyam,

Thank you. I went to the GEO Research Center to check the plants again. These plants are not in the shade. Now we are monitoring the Height and Girth of these plants. The biomass we will measure when they reach the  maximum growth. The yield is difficult as our people many times have harvested the beans.

Congratulations to the biochar team.

Sir, We too want to take up trials using biochar in farmers' field. From whom and where I can contact to buy the required quantity of biochar? Do you have any information about the quantum of application of biochar to different crops?

Regards

Veeresh

Dear Dr. Veeresh,

I would like to introduce Dr. Deoyani. She is a soil scientist as well having experience in Biochar. She is associated with the project Good Stoves and Biochar Compost (GSBC), Project implemented by GEO and being supported by GoodPlanet.org, France. Please be in communication with each other regarding the ongoing studies and the analysis of biochar.

Please also follow the ongoing biochar guidelines being developed by IBI.

You could also join the webinar on 28th October 2011 8:00 am to 10:00 am PDT , the links are available on the IBI website.

Today I am sending you a bag of biochar compost for your studies and analysis. If needed more we will arrange to send it.

With best regards,

Dr. N. Sai Bhaskar Reddy

Dear Dr. Reddy,

Thanks for your help.

I'll initiate laboratory and pot cultuer experiments as soon as we receive biochar compost. We shortly start collecting soil samples from problematic soils (Sodic soils from TBP Command area in Karnataka). I will keep ypu updated from my end.

Please convey my regards to Dr. Deoyani.

Dear Dr. Vikas, Dr. Veeresh and All,

We will send you some quantity of Biochar Compost developed by GEO. The Characterization and standardization of  Biochar compost is very much important to develop the methods and practices into a science. Your studies and analysis would help many of us to help the farmers and organisations to disseminate Biochar / Biochar Compost. We are willing to send some quantity (10 to 20 kgs) to any other institutions too, for studies and understanding biochar. This particular biochar compost is one year old and this has resulted in the record growth of cluster beans.
