to Biochar
Biochar is a good idea, but funding of production is open to abuse
such as illegal deforestation and failure to replant. Governments
should fund sustainable woodland management and composting with
additional support for coppice or pollard systems, planting of native
(or mixed - say up to 10% non-native) woodlands for biodiversity,
development of on-site charcoal making where appropriate, farm-
forestry cooperatives, district heating systems (using gases from
biochar production). This will create jobs and support local
economies, which should be clearly shown in funding applications.
