Quantitative Genetics and Drug R&D

Human Genetics has great potential to increase drug R&D successful rate as it can help us identify new drug targets and achieve personalized medicine. Here, I will discuss the roles of Quantitative Genetics in drug R&D, with a focus on pharmacogenetic/genomic studies. I will present an ongoing project where we are performing pharmacometic modeling to understand biological mechanisms and incorporating them into genetic association tests in phase II clinical trials to increase study power. I will also briefly discuss several ongoing efforts to identify treatment response biomarkers utilizing molecular data including DNA variants, RNA expression, protein analytes and flow cytometry measurements.
