Dear Bio4j team,

First of all, you have done an awesome job!  Thanks so much for the initiative and I hope Bio4j grows to become one centralized BioDB.

I come from a biology background with little knowledge in databases and just started learning about GraphDBs.  I want to create a local instance of Neo4j-specific implementation of Bio4j. I have successfully done steps 6 and 7.  However, on step 8 file DownloadAndPrepareBio4jSources.sh from https://github.com/bio4j/neo4jdb/blob/master/docs/importing_bio4j_neo4j.markdown couldn't be found (Error: Page not found).

Any suggestions,
Thanks,
Kaushik

Hi Kaushik,

Thanks so much for your comments of support!  :)
I just fixed the broken link for the script file here
(Beware that for some reason uniprot downloads ftp site is not working right now...)

Cheers,

Pablo

Dear Pablo,

Thanks.  Many other links (AWS Releases, CloudFormation templates) on the same page doesn't seem to be working.

Will I have full access to Neo4j-specific implementation of Bio4j through AWS?  I eagerly want to get started with querying Bio4J and I am familiar with Neo4J and Cypher.

Thanks,
Kaushik

Hi Kaushik,

Yeah, in fact I would strongly recommend you to use version 0.9 that is already imported and fully available in AWS as a public snapshot.
This is the id of the snapshot: snap-1185fd0f (it's in eu-west1 region)

Regarding the documentation you're right, it's quite messy at the moment but we have a major update going on right now and we're focusing on the development of the new version together with its documentation. (Be ready for a new version full of improvements and major changes pretty soon!)
Anyways, don't hesitate to ask any question you may have about how to use Bio4j.

Cheers,

Pablo

Hi Pablo,

Thanks so much!

I will go through it and get familiarised.  I was trying represent Protein Data Bank as GraphDB (with a lot of help from a friend who is a database expert) as part of my PhD (see below).  I would be interested to know short and long term goals of Bio4j (and if there is anything I can contribute).
