 Hi,
Just wondering how i could start participating in this project. am pretty new around here and am interested in one of the projects submitted under this one as part of the GSOC. the project is the one concerning graphml/gexf exporter. i need a head start and more insight about what its all about.
Please if one could reply including a channel on IRC where it is discussed, i will be most pleased.
Thanks , Good day all

Hi Larry

about the graphml/gexf project, I’m afraid I cannot give you a lot of info, the mentors for that are @pablopareja and @laughedelic. They are normally around here, you can also mention them in the corresponding issue or just write them an email if it’s something more personal.

Sadly we don’t use IRC, we think that is better for communication to be either public, linkable and integrated with development or if needed private (email, chat, whatever)

thanks,

Hi Larry,

Sorry for the delay in my response.
Great to see your interest in the graphml/gexf project ;)

As the ideas page says, this project will consist of implementing a tool which could export the results of queries and/or complete bio4j modules in all/any of the formats: gexf, graphml, graphson.
Ir order to do this you should be fluent in either Java or Scala programming languages (both would be also nice :) ). In principle you would be dealing with Bio4j database directly through the Java API (instead of Cypher or Gremlin query languages)
Also the possibility of developing a Web GUI and/or cmdline access for these exporters would be nice.

Please let me know if this doesn't answer your doubts about the project idea or you have any other questions.

Cheers,

Pablo

Hi,

I am currently working on integrating Chemical Data into the Bio4j database, could have worked on the same in Google Summer of Code Project.

Could you like update the idea list or is it fixed ?

Thank you,
Sandeep

Hey Sandeep

sure, we even thought about adding something like "integrate data resource xyz". If you take a look at the ideas page

you'll see that there's even a placeholder idea there: "your own idea". Feel free to edit the wiki and add it there
