CALL FOR PAPERS
Future Generation Computer Systems (FGCS)
The International Journal of Grid Computing and eScience
Editor-in-Chief: Peter Sloot Elsevier
http://www.elsevier.com/locate/fgcs
Special Issue on Advances in Computer Supported Collaboration
Technologies and Systems
Abstract Submission Deadline: October 10, 2011 Full Manuscript
Submission Deadline: December 19, 2011

SCOPE AND OBJECTIVES
Providing computer supported collaboration remains a challenging multi
disciplinary task despite impressive advances in the field over the
past three decades. During the past decade, computer supported
collaboration became a more feasible and practical reality, especially
with the introduction of Web 2.0 technologies and high performance
pervasive networks, and more recently clouds. As these and other
technologies become widely employed, we expect new capabilities and
forms of collaboration to appear. This special issue addresses a broad
spectrum of methodologies and technologies, including
ethnographically-based or field-based experiences, that relate to
cooperation, coordination, communication, and collaboration at both
the client and backend (cloud) levels. It invites contributions aimed
at a wide range of topics such as sensors, people, clouds, robots and
social networks, e-learning, e- business, e-health, emergency
response, knowledge management, decision making and support, global
grids, P2P, multi-agent systems, trust and cyber security, mobile
clients, Web 2.0, virtual environments, ubiquitous collaboration, user
interfaces and related human and socio-technical collaboration issues.

The organizers of the 2011 International Conference on Collaboration
and Technologies (CTS 2011 - http://cts2011.cisedu.info/) are pleased
to announce a special journal issue that will be published in
Elsevier’s Future Generation Computer Systems. The special issue on
“Advances in Computer Supported Collaboration Technologies and
Systems” seeks submissions from academia, industry and governmental
research labs presenting novel research on all theoretical and
practical aspects of computer supported collaboration, as well as case
studies, tools and platforms, and implementation experiences. Papers
should have practical relevance to the construction, evaluation,
application, or operation of collaboration systems. The scope of this
special issue will be interdisciplinary, involving contributions from
experts in the areas of collaboration infrastructure, human systems,
collaborative work processes, cooperation and coordination, and
various domain applications with collaboration.

The Special Issue topics include (but are not limited to) the following:
• Frameworks and Methodologies for Collaboration
• Collaboration Enabling Technologies
• Architectures & Design of Collaboration Systems
• Platforms, Artifacts and Tools for Collaboration
• Coordination and Cooperation Mechanisms
• Interfaces for Collaborative Work
• Intelligent, Autonomous and Multi Agents in Collaboration
• Collaborative Enterprise Security & Access Control
• Role-based Models and Solutions
• Simulation of Collaboration Systems
• Cognitive and Psychological Issues in Collaboration
• Virtual Communities and Communities of Practice
• Group Characteristics and Social Factors
• Distributed Team Management and Issues
• Distributed Shared Design and Development
• Ontologies and Ethnographic Approaches
• Human-machine Collaboration and Interaction
• Awareness in Collaboration Systems
• Contextual and Situation-based Collaboration
• Visualization of Collaborative Processes & Applications
• Collaboration and Cloud Computing
• Grid-based Collaboration Environments
• Web Infrastructure for Collaborative Applications
• Service Oriented Architectures for Collaboration
• Social Multimedia and Social Networks

PAPER SUBMISSIONS
Interested authors should send a one- to two-page abstract with title,
authors, affiliations, emails and contact information, and a statement
of their intent to submit an extended version of their CTS 2011 paper
or a new manuscript to this special issue by the due date. In case of
an extended version, please indicate clearly where the original work
was published or presented. The abstract should be sent as an email
attachment to the Special Issue Guest Editors by October 10, 2011.
Guest Editors replies to authors will be sent by October 24, 2011.
Only manuscripts of approved abstracts will be considered.

Submitted manuscripts must not have been published or simultaneously
submitted/under consideration elsewhere. The submitted papers must
represent a substantial extension of work presented at the conference
(at least by 30%), and should include previously unpublished material
that adds new insight and significant content well beyond that in the
published proceedings. Submission should include a cover page with
authors' names, affiliation addresses, fax numbers, phone numbers, and
authors email addresses. Please, indicate clearly the corresponding
author(s) and include up to 6 keywords from the above list of topics
and an abstract of no more than 400 words. Please include page numbers
on all submissions to make it easier for reviewers to provide helpful
comments.

Please register at the Journal's editorial handling system (EES)
http://ees.elsevier.com/fgcs/, if you have not yet used the system,
select Author Log-in, and upload editable source files for manuscript
(Word, LaTeX, ...) and figures, mentioning that the paper is part of
the special section Advances in Computer Supported Collaboration
Technologies and Systems. Please choose the Article Type ''SS:
Collaboration-CTS2011-WaleedSmari". The system will then prepare a pdf
for approval. When the "approval" button is clicked, the paper will be
submitted.

Regarding format: On the journal homepage
www.elsevier.com/locate/fgcs, there is a Guide for Authors providing
instructions and requirements for papers. There is no journal
template, and we prefer to have no elaborate lay-out as that will be
removed anyway. We do require however the submission of author
biographies and photographs. An elementary structure of title, author
names, affiliations, contact information, abstract, text, references,
figure captions, figures would be sufficient. The number of pages
of the submitted paper should be related to the content of the paper:
superfluous material is to be avoided. Usually uploading takes less
than 10 minutes.

If you encounter any problems in the use of the online system, please
do not hesitate to contact author...@elsevier.com. Elsevier
support department can also answer e-submission system queries by
telephone: For The Americas: +1 888 834 7287 (toll-free for US &
Canadian customers); For Asia & Pacific: +81 3 5561 5032; For Europe &
rest of the world: +353 61 709190.

Submitted papers will receive thorough reviews and evaluation. Papers
will be selected based on their originality, contributions, technical
clarity and presentation, language, significance to the readership of
the journal, relevance to the special issue, and quality and
significance of research hypothesis, assertions, and conclusions.
