Wagamama was one of the first UK restaurants to equip staffers with wireless handhelds to take orders and payments. Six years ago, it stayed ahead of the curve with an iPhone app that lets customers find their nearest Wagamama location, browse the menu, and place and collect an order at their chosen site. More recently, it developed the Qkr! mobile app with MasterCard, which allows customers to order additional dishes to their table and pay for them from their iOS or Android phones. The app lets individual customers select only what they ordered when paying, making it easy to split the bill among friends.

Recently I attended an event at Wagamama that will change my eating and dining out habits forever. Prior to the event, I had to submit my favourite selections from the Wagamama menu so they could be analaysed by two fantastic foodies.

After hearing a short introduction from each of them, we were each treated to an alternative dish from the Wagamama menu. The purpose was to learn about the science behind our favourite ingredients and to analyse our taste buds.

New to the Big Plates menu is the Tofu Hot Pot, featuring tofu, tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), and vegetables in a Korean-inspired broth. Another new addition is the Silken Tofu Gochujang Rice Bowl, which combines vegetables, slaw and silken tofu with spicy gochujang sauce on a bed of sticky rice.

Thank you again to The Printworks, Manchester, for inviting us down to try these dishes. A special thanks to Simon and his team at Wagamama for being so knowledge-full about this new menu. Honestly, if you have any questions, just ask the team, as they know their stuff and are happy to help and explain the menu with regards to special dietary requirements.

As part of its new Korean-inspired menu, this dish consists of a broth with tofu, tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), mangetout, butternut squash, bok choi, kimchi, and red onion. The bowl is topped off with fresh red chili, coriander cress, and spring onion, with a final drizzle of chili oil.

If you're in the mood for Asian-inspired flavours but don't fancy going out, you'll love our recipe collection below. From beef ramen to bao buns, serve up your very own homemade version of the Wagamama menu!

Fast-forward a couple of years later, and the vegan movement is rapidly picking up speed. Everywhere you look, restaurants are launching exclusively vegan menus, with good old Wagamama being one of them.

As expected, it was a yummy, fun-filled evening, and my boyfriend and I were probably ploughed with more food than we could manage! It was really exciting getting to try whatever we wanted from the menu; as well as chat to the head chef Muthu who had been part of the team that created the dishes, and the servers themselves, one of whom was also vegan.

So it would seem, I have been hiding under a rock. Wagamama have actually had a vegan menu for over a year! Not a vegetarian menu with two token choices for us plant eaters, but an entire menu! Who knew! The restaurant chain has also introduced some innovative new dishes, just for veganuary. Dehydrated water melon anyone?? (dont pre-judge, it was blooming gorgeous). We were invited in to the Thurrock Lakeside (in Essex) venue to sample what was on offer. I could not have been more excited!

Firstly, one of the senior chefs, Liam, and the manager Jake talked us through the menu. I loved the excitement that Liam had for the food he cooks. That is always so good to see in a restaurant, but often lacking in bigger chains. He was so keen to cook the new food for us, urging us to try a variety! Jake was giving us suggestions. Their enthusiasm was infectious and I was excited to try the menu! The Wagamama vision with the vegan menu is that meat free should definitely not mean taste free. A beautiful sonnet of music to my vegan ears!

A dehydrated watermelon steak was served, seasoned and lightly seared in a wok. Placed on a bed of sticky rice, it was then dressed with all kinds of deliciousness. Tenderstem brocoli, seared kale, avocado and tofu guacamole and pickled radish made for a colourful plate of yumminess. It was also very healthy too, coming in at around 700 calories. We were all a little dubious about how this dish would work. But it just does! It is inventive and different, and I love the effort that has gone into the Wagamama vegan menu. It is amazing!

wagamana features pan-Asian cuisine based on Japanese ramen bars. The restaurant offers noodles, rice and wok dishes, delicious desserts and more. wagamama is especially popular among families with children.

In 2019, sandwich shop chain Pret overhauled its menu for the first time in 33, introducing eight new vegan dishes and five vegetarian options. It also announced plans to buy out and convert its rival café chain, EAT, into Veggie Pret locations. The chain carries plant-based menu options including salads, sandwiches, and wraps.
