Someyears ago, I (GLS) was snooping around in the cabinets that housedthe MIT AI Lab's PDP-10, and noticed a little switch glued to the frame of onecabinet. It was obviously a homebrew job, added by one of the lab's hardwarehackers (no one knows who).

I called another hacker over to look at it. He had never seen theswitch before either. Closer examination revealed that the switch had onlyone wire running to it! The other end of the wire did disappear into the mazeof wires inside the computer, but it's a basic fact of electricity that aswitch can't do anything unless there are two wires connected to it. Thisswitch had a wire connected on one side and no wire on its other side.

This time we ran for Richard Greenblatt, a long-time MIT hacker, who wasclose at hand. He had never noticed the switch before, either. He inspectedit, concluded it was useless, got some diagonal cutters anddiked it out. We then revived the computer and it hasrun fine ever since.

We still don't know how the switch crashed the machine. There is atheory that some circuit near the ground pin was marginal, and flipping theswitch changed the electrical capacitance enough to upset the circuit asmillionth-of-a-second pulses went through it. But we'll never know for sure;all we can really say is that the switch wasmagic.

1994: Another explanation of this story has since been offered. Notethat the switch body was metal. Suppose that the non-connected side of theswitch was connected to the switch body (usually the body is connected to aseparate earth lug, but there are exceptions). The body is connected to thecomputer case, which is, presumably, grounded. Now the circuit ground withinthe machine isn't necessarily at the same potential as the case ground, soflipping the switch connected the circuit ground to the case ground, causing avoltage drop/jump which reset the machine. This was probably discovered bysomeone who found out the hard way that there was a potential differencebetween the two, and who then wired in the switch as a joke.

Super VHS was developed to give users an instantly gratifying suite of one-knob effects to infuse modern productions with the lo-fi magic of the 80s. The Super VHS plug-in hosts a channel strip of six effects, each adding a unique flavour of VHS-era goodness.

The effect was inspired by the warm, detuned synth-scapes of the 80s. And, while, it's not designed to exactly emulate any classic design, BABY Audio set out to build its own ideal one-button chorus for the software age. And the company wanted to make it for a modern production scenario where the source sounds are cleaner and beg for more radical transformation.

The MAGIC SWITCH CHROMA is a touchless opening sensor for automatic doors. One hand motion in front of the sensor opens the door, completely contactless. Therefore, it is the perfect knowing act sensor for applications where hygiene is essential: hospitals, clean rooms, hotels & restaurants, pharmaceutical industries, airports, logistics and retail.

With many possible configurations of LED colour, brightness and animation, the MAGIC SWITCH CHROMA offers great user experience. In addition, the audio feedback adds comfort for the visually impaired.

Touchless opening of any automatic door, comfort for people with disabilities, light switch in toggle mode and many more. Moreover, the MAGIC SWITCH CHROMA ADV is equipped with an external signal input which allows for even more applications like door lock functions in public restrooms.

You don't touch an unknown switch on a computer without knowing whatit does, because you might crash the computer. The switch was labeledin a most unhelpful way. It had two positions, and scrawled in pencilon the metal switch body were the words `magic' and `more magic'. Theswitch was in the `more magic' position.

I called another hacker over to look at it. He had never seen theswitch before either. Closer examination revealed that the switch hadonly one wire running to it! The other end of the wire did disappearinto the maze of wires inside the computer, but it's a basic fact ofelectricity that a switch can't do anything unless there are two wiresconnected to it. This switch had a wire connected on one side and nowire on its other side.

A year later, I told this story to yet another hacker, David Moon asI recall. He clearly doubted my sanity, or suspected me of asupernatural belief in the power of this switch, or perhaps thought Iwas fooling him with a bogus saga. To prove it to him, I showed him thevery switch, still glued to the cabinet frame with only one wireconnected to it, still in the `more magic' position. We scrutinized theswitch and its lone connection, and found that the other end of thewire, though connected to the computer wiring, was connected to a groundpin. That clearly made the switch doubly useless: not only was itelectrically nonoperative, but it was connected to a place that couldn'taffect anything anyway. So we flipped the switch.

This time we ran for Richard Greenblatt, a long-time MIT hacker, whowas close at hand. He had never noticed the switch before, either. Heinspected it, concluded it was useless, got some diagonal cutters anddiked it out. We then revived thecomputer and it has run fine ever since.

Compared with BASICR2, BASICR4 has three new functions, Magic Switch Mode, Auxiliary Overheating Protection, and "eWeLink-Remote" Control. BASICR4 has "magic switch" mode, which means you can still control the light switch through the app even turning off a traditional wall switch (Note: *Only compatible with mainstream brands of double pole rocker switches. The rear-end light needs to be compatible with mainstream brands of LED,energy-saving lamps, and incandescent lamps ranging from 3W to 100W).

With the product's built-in temperature sensor, the real-time maximum temperature of the entire product can be detected and speculated, which prevents the product from deformation, melting, fire, or live devices from exposure in case of over-temperature. The BASICR4 not only has CE, FCC, etc basic certifications but also passed the more authoritative ETL certification.

BASICR4 has all the most basic functions, APP remote control, voice control, timer, power-on state, and other functions. You can control your home appliances anytime, anywhere, and also create a variety of smart scenes to facilitate your life.

I am now to this side of technology and find itead products extremely difficult to conceputulise. I purchased about 80 of these and then discovered that they are only rated to 10amps which cannot handle some of the devices we need to run. So I have now had to order the much more expensive POW product which is rated up to 16amps. In saying that the idea of the switch is excellent, the new code on the side make them 100% easier to connect compared to the old ones. We have purchased the advance eWeLink plan so can no review a scene after it has been created. Still need to figure out how to share rooms.

Really impressed with these, I bought a bundle of them and have buried them behind TV's, monitors, chargers, my home work desk - using the R5 scene controller it really has made this a super addition.

Verbal commands via Alexa, button presses on the R5, use of the app, it allows you to cut the power to standby devices and really see the savings when the electricity bill comes round.

These are great switches, have now converted the house to a smart system, for a suprisingly low cost and I love these switches. Being used to control the heating in this instance. However it was the R2 version that was sent, thather than R4 that was ordered. Not a big problem tho.

this new version of Sonoff wifi smart switch is really good at working with. it set up so easily. and view Ewelink app, you can set up easily for remote or scene automation of room underfloor heating. we use hundreds of it for many application to switch on / off any small devices at home, office, shop etc.

Toothfairy is usually thought of as a tool to help with AirPods, but it works with all sorts of Bluetooth devices, including Magic Keyboard and Trackpad. A nice bonus is that it can show you the battery level of each device in the menu bar as well.

Explanation: first it is checked if we are connected; if we are we disconnect and if not reconnect. When disconnecting from currently connected device unpairing is done to avoid reconnect back and connection issues with other device. When reconnecting pairing and connecting is run (unpair in beginning just in case)Hope this helps, post a comment if it works or experienced other issues.

The Magic Keyboard, Mouse, and Trackpad are designed to be paired with a single computer (they make no reference to multiple device pairings). However, products like the Logitech MX series as well as the K380 (typing on it right now) can pair with up to 3 devices and switch with the press of a button.

I have a lightning cable connected to the hub that drives my external monitor. And connect my work or home laptops to my monitor. Then I can plug that lightning cable in to the magic keyboard and/or trackpad when I switch or when I need to charge the keyboard or trackpad. I don't switch all that often, so it is good enough.
