Hi all:

Having run earlier versions of BimBam successfully on my MacBook Pro,
I was surprised when I started getting "Bad CPU executable error"
messages when I tried running BimBam 0.99 (MacBook Pro, OS 10.5.6,
Kernel= Darwin 9.6.0). I was able to get BimBam to run on a 24" iMac
(OS 10.5.6, Kernel=Darwin 9.6.0), so I figured that there was
something inhibiting BimBam on my computer. After borrowing another
MacBook Pro, I was surprised when I got the "Bad CPU executable error"
message again on this new computer (OS 10.5.2, Kernel=Darwin 9.5.2).

Tally? Two MacBook Pros = "Bad CPU" error; One iMac = BimBam runs.

Any hints to get around this issue? I really can't use the iMac (it
is across campus) and hate to buy an iMac just to run BimBam when I
have other Intel Macs available in the lab...

Thanks,

Tim

Here are the specs on the three systems:

System 1 that would run BimBam 0.99:
24" iMac - OS 10.5.6, Kernel - Darwin 9.6.0, Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.4
GHz, ROM IM71.007A.B03, SMC = 1.21f4

System 2 that would not run BimBam 0.99:
17" MacBook Pro - OS 10.5.6, Kernel - Darwin 9.6.0, Intel Core Duo,
2.16 GHz, ROM=MBP12.0061.B03, SMC=1.5f10

System 3 that would not run BimBam 0.99:
15" MacBook Pro - OS 10.5.2, Kernel - Darwin 9.5.2, Intel Core Duo 2.0
GHz, ROM=MBP11.0055.B08, SMC=1.2f10

Tim,

You need a PowerPC version of the BIMBAM. I will find a powerpc to
compile an executable for you.

Hi,

I noticed that in the Makefile you pass the -m64 option to gcc. I had
to remove it to compile it
on my machine (32 Bits Dual Core Intel Xeon). Maybe that could be the
problem and the fix
would be to use the -m32 option instead ( I don't have a Mac here to test this).

hope this helps,

Thanks Bertrand. Grant can you try that, recompile and send it to
me? I'll install and see if that works. Otherwise, do you have the
source code posted for the 0.99 version? (I see that the code posted
- and what I've downloaded - is for the 0.95 version.) Thanks, Tim

Tim,

I posted the 0.99 source code on registration page of bimbam website.
My gsl is 64 bit, and can't try 32 bit without reinstall my gsl. I
thought all the recent Macs are 64 bit -- but I could be wrong.
