thanksi supposed so but i wanted to be sure cause talking to my battlenet friend the porpotion on my side are similar (1/10 is actually playing D4 and exited to do so). still oW2 coming into steam actually making me think this company is cratching the barrel for players. just crossing my finger for microsoft to buy it at this point tbh.
There are about 165,192 players actively playing Diablo 4 across all supported platforms. Please note that this number is acquired directly from Steam Stats and may fluctuate depending on the time of day and other factors. So your missing PlayStation network stats?
I expect Blizzard is aware of just how important social interaction is to a game, but they simply had to chop it out of development to get the game pushed out the door and earning another billion for them.
This is a new system Open World: you see only a fraction of all players.
If the server shows you all players - simply you would not be able to play (lags) and also you would not see any mobs (players density)
Those that you see are selected by the server (a kind of matching system)
Pretty sure them simply not making the additional content that requires more graphic designers and 3d modellers, over and above the bare minimum for the base game out-with a paid track there is a convincing argument they simply would not exist otherwise and choice would be more limited. If they did not have the incentive ie. financially, they really do not need to go above and beyond with cosmetics as they would do with a paid pass.
There are games they put cheaters in together as punishment, well they can just have peacock mode in d4 so people who want to strutt their stuff can and those of us who want to enjoy the story in the environment we want can too!
I stand with OP.
You can already start seeing players just hanging around events and waiting for free loot while you do all the job. There is a side objective (I refuse to call it Side Quest) somewhere on the map with Exorcist Stash or something like that. You have to run around, kill ghosts and collect their essence. I was just doing it with two other players. It felt like early days in Arathi Hihlands in WoW where you had to wait for hours for mobs to respawn to collect some Raptor Hearts. And this is only beta access. Just wait for the game release and all the hordes of players.
Unfortunately I think we have to blame both player base and Blizzard for the huge player decline. Most Diablo 3 players prefers starting a new characters with seasonal realms.
And Blizzard most likely focused too much of their efforts listening to that player base:
Most gamers, especially rpg, prefers to keep progress and enjoy new content with their favorite characters, that they can keep playing.
So seasonal content needs to hit eternal realms to appeal all kinds of players.
There are a few contradictions with how the game currently is;
Diablo IV is lacking endgame content, and newly added regular content to eternal realms.
Sadly, all efforts to make new seasons and then delete almost all of it are programming efforts wasted that could have been directed in making the game richer.
Also, most players that enjoys seasonal realms argues that it is so easy to reach level 100 than it is not a problem to start over every seasons.
If it is made so easy, then even bother to force players to start over every seasons, if it is not the way they want to play a game ?
Additionally, the season quetlines have nice voice acting with interesting little storyline.
It is a shame to completely delete them.
Personally, I think Eternal realms should have all seasonal questlines added to it permanently, without the extra powers around them.
It might not be a lot of content, but after a dozen of seasons, yes it would be a lot of content to enjoy.
Also, if all eternal realm players were able to purchase a season pass and progress trough it just by playing the game , and have a little bit different objectives to reach full completion, that would be more money for Blizzard in the end. So why not do it ?
Seasonal players starting all over each seasons already have new content to discover.
But Eternal Realm players that prefers to accumulate progress with the same characters, are the ones that mostly needs newly added content on regular basis, also needs new objectives and long time goals to play for.
Also, having a 12 characters limit when seasons forces you to start a new character is clearly showing we eventually have to delete hard grinded characters. Which is an other bad point to seasonal gameplay that was pointed out.
No wonder why so many players quit; Diablo IV is lacking endgame content and is forcing everyone to have a new start every 3 months to enjoy a little bit of new content.
Not everyone have 60 hours a week to play video games, most players might have barely 6 to 10 hours to play each week.
If they are forced to start all over every 3 months, it makes the game look very stupid for them, exactly as all the 10 players I knew that quit the game gave as the main reason why they quit.
I questionned them and most said they would come back to the game if they could keep playing the same characters to enjoy seasonal content. And it was their choice to level a new character with enjoyable bonuses rather than it being forced on them to enjoy a bit of new content.
I think it is not too late to adjust the optics of how Diablo IV is with newly added content and seasonal systems.
But it has to be fixed before the first expansion comes out, because that might be the hit to reach a lot of players and get them back into the game.
The problem with a bring players back mentality is when people leave games they go do something else. Something that holds their attention. If they turn their heads and look over and see Diablo, Mephisto and Baal wailin out on electric guitars they might be enticed but if you just show Season 4 season of the turd burglar! Collect toilet seats and brandish them as armor to smite your enemies!!!
The itemization is horrible, just horrible. The hunt for items in the world is pigeonholed into a massively limited amount of places making 99% of the world irrelevant. Just so much fundamentals not working at all.
Some of the same people who have been complaining about the game for the last 8 months, will still be on the forum complaining about the expansion at the end of the year. Enjoy the show.

First, the TTS reads just about everything in the game: menus, gear and their stats, items and enemies in the overworld, notifications, and more. Next, the screen reader is highly customizable, snappy, and allows the user to change the volume, voice, speaking rate, and even what it reads to begin with. You can hear what it sounds like below.
Update: It turns out that the third-party screen reader does work as we originally intended, but it was not working on launch with NVDA because the files to work with NVDA were not included. You can download the NVDA DLLs here and put them in the main directory of your Diablo IV game and everything should work from there. It apparently works perfectly fine with JAWS.
There are a few downsides to the screen reader and many weird bugs, but none that I would consider game breaking. First, the screen reader just outright does not read character customization, not even if you are a male or female character. I would really like game studios to begin considering this, because many blind people want to customize their characters for various reasons. Some people want their character to look like them, some people want to create a fictional character they may have in their head, and some people want to design with a particular aesthetic in mind. At the end of the day, Diablo IV is a Role-Playing Game, and blind gamers want to be able to be part of the RPG experience in all of its aspects that inspire creativity and imagination for others to experience.
So is this game accessible to blind gamers? It is my opinion that Diablo IV is playable, but not completely accessible for gamers who are blind. Theoretically, with enough time, getting from one place to another, dungeon to dungeon, can be done, it will most likely be very tedious. Playing with a sighted friend or group of friends will be the most accessible experience. All in all, I would give Diablo IV a 7.5 / 10 for its blind accessibility.
