Thesedirectory listing softwares lets the user quickly print list of files in folder or save a directory's contents. They come with various options, such as listing the contents of a selected folder and saving the report as CSV, HTML, TXT and XLS, DOC, or other formats supported. Some allow printing directly to a printer. You can use this print listing directory program to manage your MP3 databases or create an MP3U playlist manually. Some of these are portable and do not require installation and more.

Sometimes, we need the particular windows directory listing (name of folders/files, the dimensions of files/folders and so on.) of a directory or folder. If we want to index folders and files on DVD or CD, there is software to aid in precisely that. Print Folders software provides details of the folder's contents in a simple and ready file format that can be listed and printed.

Are you looking for a graphic tool that does the same task? I'd recommend Karen's Directory Printer. I used it a few years ago to create weekly print logs for files. It's simple to use but offers a packed interface. All you have to do is pick the directory, select the attributes you'd like (file dimensions, the date it was of creation, the file was created, and extension) and then press Print.

JR Directory Printer is a free program to display windows directory list within an input directory. To use it, you must use the "Run as Administrator" option from the context menu. You can select the format of display based on different settings on the Display tab, such as size, data, Time and Attributes, etc. You can select the "Recurse Subdirectories" alternative to include subdirectories in the report. It creates the "DirPrint.txt" named file within the installation directory. It is possible to run multiple instances of this program. However, it will overwrite the TXT output file each time. When creating text reports, you can also use lowercase file names and DOS format filenames. It will remember the last time you opened a directory.

Select the folder you want to list directory contents, select whether you'd like to repeat (include) all its subfolders and if you prefer to use lowercase names for your files, click to start. It will create and open a file named DirPrint.txt, which can be edited or copied elsewhere.

Arclab Dir2HTML is software free to create HTML indexing files for any folder you wish to index. The first step is to select the input folder through browsing and then assign the name of the HTM output file by clicking the "Select output" button. The mask can be set to *. * to cover all files or alter them to match the specific file types (e.g. *.mp3). It can support recursive folder indexing options too. You can set various display options and HTML formats of the output, such as the page title, font, text colour, font size, and more. The program creates an HTML report for you once you press the Start button. It has an easy user interface.

Arclab Dir2HTML can be described as a directory to HTML index converter that creates an HTML index file of directories and the files on your network or computer. The list of files could include subfolders (recursive search) or a single folder. Dir2HTML can index large file structures or entire drives in one click. It creates one-page indexes that include a subfolder section, a one-page index with no subfolder sections or a multiple-page index using a separate index file for every subfolder.

The above directory listing program allows you to create or copy the information from the selected directory in a snap. The Print Folder software is available for free for Windows PC.

Instructions for using commands to print the contents of a folder--including various command switches that let you control the format of the resulting file list--are in Gregory Harris' TechRepublic article from 2002. I tested Harris' instructions in Windows 7, and the only change is that you enter "cmd" at the Windows Run line to open the command prompt rather than "command.com" as his article indicates.

Another option is to add a Print Directory option to the context (right-click) menu in Windows Explorer and other folder windows. The procedure is explained in an article on the Microsoft Support site.

Unfortunately, the process entails creating a batch file, editing the Advanced settings in Windows' Folder Options (in XP), and opening the Registry to edit a key value. If you modify your context menu in this manner, be sure to back up your Registry by creating a restore point beforehand.

Free utility simplifies folder and directory printing

Of the many freeware solutions to the problem of printing the contents of folders and directories, two stand out. The first is KarenWare's Directory Printer (which I always knew as Karen's Directory Printer, but it's the same program). I used this program years ago but have since switched to Directory List & Print from Infonautics.

Directory List & Print is only slightly larger than 400K, making it less than half the size of the KarenWare product. But the main reason I chose Directory List & Print over KarenWare's Directory Printer is the Infonautics program's ability to export the folder list directly to MS Word or Excel. Still, when it comes to options for sorting and modifying the list of files and folders prior to printing, KarenWare's Directory Printer has the edge over Directory List & Print.

I use only a fraction of Audacity's many features, but even for straightforward conversion of audio tracks to MP3s, a thorough tutorial is in order. Sourceforge.net offers a five-part Audacity training guide. But when I encountered several minor glitches in setting up Audacity on my PC, I relied on the solutions offered by the Audacity Wiki. I also found the Audacity Wiki's tips for transferring tapes and records to computer or CD very handy.

After completing the conversion of your analog tracks to digital, you may want to burn them to audio CDs. And what's a CD without a nice cover listing the tracks on the disc? If you use iTunes to create music CDs, printing a good-looking cover is as easy as choosing the playlist in the left pane, clicking Print, and selecting one of the layout options on the Theme drop-down menu.

Good luck finding a similar option in Microsoft's Windows Media Player 11. Several people have devised workarounds for the inability to print playlists in WMP, and there are also free programs for creating and printing CD labels (one of which I describe below). In fact, your printer may have shipped with a utility for printing CD labels.

I prefer a low-tech solution. First, arrange the playlist window so only the information you want on the cover is visible. This will likely include the song titles, artists (if you're creating a compilation CD), and track length. Next, resize the window to make it easy to capture using the Print Screen function (press Alt-Print Screen to capture only the active window).

You don't want the entire WMP window on your CD cover, so paste the screen capture in MS Paint or another graphics program, select and copy only the material to appear on the cover, open a new window in the program, and paste the selected portion of the original screen into the new file. Save the file as a bitmap or JPEG.

Now open MS Word or another word processing program, type the name of the CD in the center of the top line of the new document, and then insert the image you just created of the CD's tracks, also centered on the page. You may have to resize the image to get it to fit the 5-inch-by-5-inch CD cover. To do so, just select the image to highlight its resize buttons, grab a corner, and drag it to the desired size.

This crude-but-effective technique may not win any design awards, but it meets my modest needs. If you prefer to go the freeware route, Magix Xtreme Print Studio is a highly rated program, although it appears to lack the ability to import playlists or other data from WMP or other apps (I haven't tested the program). The only requirement is that you register to use the program longer than 7 days.

Sometimes we need to know the exact contents (name of files/folders, size of files/folders etc.) of a folder or directory. Or we need to index files and folders from CD/DVD, then there are some software that help you to do the same. Directory Printer programs give you the report about the folder contents in an easy and ready to print format.

Here are 27 best free directory printer software for Windows. These directory listing software lets you print or save the contents of selected directory easily. These directory printer software are available free to download on your Windows PC. These have various features, like list the contents of any selected folder and save the report in TXT, HTML, CSV, DOC, XLS or other supported formats, some let you print directly to your printer, can use these software to create or manage your MP3 files database or for creating M3U playlist file manually, some of these are portable and does not require installation and more.

Filelist Creator is another directory printer software in the list. You can use it to print the files names from a folder and its sub folders in a list. It can list all the files with their sizes, date created, date accessed etc. in the output list. If you want to save only the filenames of files from a folder and all its subfolders without path, there is also an option for that. You can also use it to delete the listed files by selecting all files at once.

DirList is a simple and easy to use software to view and/or print the list of files from the selected directory. It has 3 tabs named: Explorer, List, and Preview. First choose the folder by browsing in Explorer tab, now click start button at the bottom, a List tab will open automatically. Here you can choose the column fields, layout etc. Click Preview button at bottom or go to Preview tab directly. Here you can print or save the output list in HTML or CSV format. It also shows the file system info, capacity of your disk drive, and free space in the Explorer tab. You can use Recurse subdirectories option also for scanning inside sub folders.
