The simplest for you would be to expand cab file to a temp folder retaining zipped folder structure. Then manually scan for INF files. This is what GBW and Windows will use when installing drivers. In particular GBW will look for devices which Class= either net or scsiadaper or hdc.

Yes, it helps, thank you. I extracted files from one set of cabs with Universal Extractor. I had to locate an Installshield 12 viewer/extractor for the other. From there I identified the inf's, catalog, and driver files.

When taking inventory from the Ghost Console the installed cards (both wireless) fail to show up in inventory! My few hours research leads me to think the cards are not present in the machine's WMI database. Apparently the installers did not write entries to the WMI database. As much as I'd like to spend hours becoming expert in WMI I can't afford to.

This is worthy of a whole new thread; I searched the forum but came up empty. Be that as it may, how may an administrator make manual WMI entries for hardware where the installer fails to make WMI entries? What info do I need to have at hand and what to use to edit the WMI database? I'm of course looking for the Quick Start answer so to avoid having to read up on WMI. As Joe Friday said, "Just the facts, please." (Oops, I've just dated myself!)

Wireless is a separate issue. Most if not all cards cannot be used in any preos since they have to be configured manually. Hopefully you have some real card in your client machines if you are planning to use them in Console tasks? We are actively thinking of ways of allowing GSS to use wireless cards, that become quite common in today's machines, which of course would mean that all tasks will have to be done from the main OS where card is already configured. Problem is that many tasks cannot be done from main OS yet...

But again I am not sure from your post what are you trying to achieve with wireless cards? Are you trying to use them in preos for say cloning or you just want them to be enumerated by WMI and show up in the Console inventory db?

Yes, I want to use the wireless card in the PreOS environment. At my school wireless is used in computers on mobile carts all over the school. I can get teachers to leave these machines with power. Impossible to get them to connect computers to the wired LAN. Consequently, the desire for imaging over wireless.

About enumeration by WMI, I discovered the non-default Inventory Views "Network Adapter" and "Network Adapter Configuration". (I confess I haven't read all 600+ pages of the manuals.) The wireless adapters are there in the Console inventory db.

This raises another issue: As both wireless and wired adapters are in fact present in the Console Inventory database, why would some machines show on the Console with Adapter Addresses and others with Adapter Addresses "Not known" when those addresses are enumerated by WMI? Further I just discovered one instance of a MAC address for a wireless adapter displaying as the MAC address for the wired adapter!

At this point I'm trying to achieve some consistency in what Ghost shows in machine view. Specifically, adapter addresses were shown when all machines first contacted Console. Now however some machines exhibit Adapter Address "not known", others exhibit the MAC address of the wireless adapter. The wireless adapter was installed subsequent to the first contact of machine to Console.

The machines exhibiting "not known" or MAC address of the wireless adapter still participate successfully in Task operations. In Task logs the machines with wired and wireless adapters typically show both MAC addresses.

What you could try to do with the machines that rise your suspisions is to delete them from the console and therefore force them to be "discovered" again. Refresh configuration task should also help to renew the machine information but if it does not work than deleting a machine is the definitive means to recreate machine data in the Console.
