Hi everyone,

A sunny and cosy weekend is coming!
So we are going to organize two bike rides on both Saturday and Sunday this weekend.

==== Event 1:  ====

Ride on trails in the Rothrock State Forest!
Here is some information about Rothrock, in case you are interested:
http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/Forestry/stateforests/rothrock.aspx

Time & Place:

1 pm, Sep 19 ( Saturday ), meet at the parking lot at the crossing of Curtin Rd and Shortlidge Rd on campus.

What to expect:

==Prerequisite==

You will need a mountain bike with at least 21 speed (3 x 7), since the trails are unpaved and very hilly. Please check your bike beforehand to make sure it's working properly (e.g. gears and brakes).

==Transportation==

We will drive there and start riding in the Rothrock State Forest.

Here is the driving direction:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Parking+lot+at+the+crossing+of+Curtin+and+Shortlidge+%4040.801336,-77.863648&daddr=Laurel+Run+Rd,+Boalsburg,+PA+16827&hl=en&geocode=FTiUbgIdIOVb-w%3B&mra=ls&sll=40.747712,-77.811012&sspn=0.043697,0.111494&ie=UTF8&z=12

Now we have two cars to provide transportation for people and bikes. We can take no more than 3 extra people.
Bikes will be put on a bike rack or in the trunk together with other bikes, so some scratches are expected.
If you can be responsible for your own transportation (including your bikes), that would be great!

It takes about 40 min to drive there, and 10 min to load/unload the bikes. So hopefully we can hit the trail by 2pm.

==The trail==

Here is the trail route we will be riding:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Laurel+Run+Rd&daddr=Stone+Creek+Rd+to:40.742835,-77.778397&geocode=FeCvbQIdfDBd-w%3BFZKkbAIdgd1b-w%3B&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=2&sz=12&via=1&vps=6&jsv=176c&sll=40.719941,-77.822342&sspn=0.160547,0.365982&num=10

It is about 15 miles, all unpaved/dirt road, shared with motor vehicles (very few).
It takes approx. 2.5 hours to finish with moderate speed.

(Many thanks to Yong for providing the trail information and transportation! )

What to bring:

A 21-speeding (or above) mountain bike (!!important).
Wear a helmet.
Plenty of water (I suggest two bottles, but we can get supplies in the Whipple Dam State Park) and some snacks.

If you'd like to come:

Please email me with your name, cell phone number and which event you'll participate.

==== Event 2:  ====

Ride to the University Park Airport!
Don't you miss the moment when you first set foot on State College? Let's go back to the good old times by bike!

Time & Place:

3:00 pm, Sep 20 ( Sunday ), gather at the north entrance of Pattee Library ( on Curtin Rd ). Please be on time.

What to expect:

Here is the route we will be riding:
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?source=s_d&saddr=Laurel+Run+Rd&daddr=Stone+Creek+Rd+to:40.742835,-77.778397&geocode=FeCvbQIdfDBd-w%3BFZKkbAIdgd1b-w%3B&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=2&sz=12&via=1&num=10&ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=105873616766538343239.000473d0dbd0dd1541b39&ll=40.82628,-77.873669&spn=0.054816,0.110378&z=13

It is about 13.5 miles, and it takes approx. 2 hours to finish with moderate speed. We will ride on some bike paths, but mostly we'll share the road with vehicles (traffic is not heavy). The route has moderate rises and falls but I think it is acceptable to most people.

What to bring:

A functional bike. Mountain bike or road bike or BMX are all welcome!
Wear a helmet.
A bottle of water and some snacks.

If you'd like to come:

Please email me with your name, cell phone number and which event you'll participate.

If you have any questions or concerns:

Don't hesitate to ask me!

Happy riding!
