Obviously, at this point, we're not going to take a stand on any of
the races in Tuesday's primary election. However, we now have five
months to reach out to the candidates who will move on to the general
election in November, so we need to get busy make sure we play a role
in who wins in the fall.

On another matter, I usually have little or no knowledge of the
candidates in the judicial races, and have any idea who to vote for.
However, David Vahedi, who is a practicing attorney and recent
candidate for L.A.'s 5th Council District, has offered his
recommendations, in some cases based on personal knowledge of the
candidates.

This does not represent an endorsement, either from me or the LBV, but
could provide a useful guide for anyone who's as lost on these races
as I am.

"Office #28
Mark K. Ameli, Arbitrator, Mediator,Litigator
Office # 35
Soussan (Suzanne) Bruguera, Superior Court Judge
Office #73
Laura A. Matz, Superior Court Judge
Office #107
Valerie Salkin, Gang Prosecutor
Office # 117
Alan Schneider, Gang Homicide Prosecutor
Office #131
Maren Elizabeth Nelson, Superior Court Judge

While I (Vahedi) support all of the candidates above, I have known
Mark Ameli for many years and I am so excited about his candidacy.
By far one of the most experienced candidates for judge that I have
ever encountered.
Valerie Salkin and I use to work together at the State Board of
Equalization before she became a Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney.
She is sharp, analytical, and most important, has an amazing
temperament.
Alan Scheinder has been the prosecutors’ prosecutor. But what is so
great about Alan is that even though he is the best of the best, he is
always approachable and very respectful to all. These are the
qualities needed to be a great judge."
