Hi all,
We are going to try to run APRS in the Command Post for the event, however I do not know yet if we will have a WiFi connection or need to use a hotspot. If we are on a hotspot the connection could be unstable.
We only track mobile units via APRS, we do not track the rest stops via APRS because we have GPS coordinates for them, and they do not move.
I had someone ask me about using a Shriek for APRS, I gave them a Shriek, but I have decided to change it to “2025SC”, sorry about that. You don’t have to put in your tactical call when setting up APRS, we will be using APRSIS in the Command Post and will be able to change the display name on the screen.
If you are running APRS via RF or a mobile device that is plugged in, I recommend setting your beacon interval to 30-60 seconds (with 30 seconds being optimal). If you are running a mobile device that is not plugged in, you can go longer but I ask that you try to keep it no longer than every 2-3 minutes.
The event starts at 7:30AM. I will be at the command post by 6:00AM. All mobile units should report to the command post no later than 6:30AM on Saturday 3/29/2025. I am waiting to find out if the command post will be in the same place as it was last year. Brandon or I will confirm the location of the command post as soon as we get it.

Mike, do you want me to collect the APRS beacon IDs from each operator or do you want them to submit it to you directly?

You have enough to do, they can email me directly, off list at mi...@slbservicesgroup.com.
All they need to do is beacon their call sign and let me know what suffix they are using (i.e. W2YS-9) and use the Shriek 2025SC.
As in past years we will be running special event call sing N4C in the command post. The request I submitted about 30 minutes ago was just approved.

Gil brough up a good point and it would be better to set your APRS to use Smart beaconing. It will automatically adjust depending on your speed.

I have tried to unsubscribe several times and goes no where. Please, I am trying again. Unsubscribe.
I have already updated the SAG numbers to match todays, roster so you do not need to let me know what number you are now..
For those who are running APRS, I am waiting on 3 mobile units to confirm their APRS ID’s. Once I have them, I will update the APRS ID list and send it out to the group.

2025 BikeMS Suncoast Challenge – Net Control
For those using APRS in your vehicles, I will be broadcasting the locations of where Law Enforcement should be stationed for the event from the command post. Just use Shriek “!2025SC!” and you will be able to see them. If you click on the icon, in the comments field I placed the times they are supposed to be on location.
I used the following icon for LEO on the map:
This one is right at the entrance to the start/finish line. I named it PD-NET because once all riders leave the start line the office will relocate to NET control as the liaison.
The remaining LEO’s have been given a number. If you see 9 and 9a it is the same officer, just stationed at one location for a while then relocating to a second one as the ride goes on.
I have also mapped where NET control will be located this year. Note how you will get in and out of NET Control by vehicle.
Any questions, send me an email off list.
