According to the MS Societies website as of 3/28/2025 @ 0900, there are 486 registered participants.

Hourly weather forecast for tomorrow, event day.

Information for Rest Stop Operators

Paul Toth visited the Command Post site, and all rest stops and had this report. Thank you, Paul for doing this.

“I visited the Command Post Site and all the Rest Stops today and conducted Analog and NXDN radio tests from each site.  All were successful at 5 watts with the exception of the Manasota Key Rest Stop.  Digital worked at 5 watts.  Analog will require 25 watts from that site only.”

Rest Stop operators may check in while they are enroute to their rest stop, just let me know you are enroute (this is optional). Rest Stop operators do need to check in no later than arriving on post. You should report if the rest stop volunteers and supplies are on site and the rest stops status (i.e. Setting up / open).

Information for Mobile Units

With that said, and looking at the Verna repeater coverage map, we should be good for the entire route using a 40w mobile radio. If you happen to find a dead spot where you can not reach the Verna repeater and you have an NXDN radio, you can use NXDN. Paul will be running the NXDN net an backing me up on the primary net.

All mobile units should report to the command post no later than 0630. We will have a quick breifing and I may give initial assignments at that time. I posted a map of the command post yesterday.

Calling NET Control

If you need to call into NET control via phone, you can use the rider support number which is (872) 228-7363. I will probably be busy on the radio so I won’t be answering my phone unless I ask you to call me, or you ask to call me, my cell number is (813) 850-6363.

NET

The NET will open at 0700 and we will take Roll Call. If you were given an initial assignment, you should be on post by 0730 when the event starts.

Any questions, contact me off list at mi...@slbservicesgroup.com. See you all tomorrow, and thank you for volunteering your time to work this event. We couldn’t do it without you.

A few questions I think are of more general interest:

NXDN, Paul Toth or anyone familiar with the less expensive radios with
limited controls that a number of us have:
I think I've figured out that to get to TG 1231, you use the P2
button to change to "WCF-2", then dial to "2-VERNA" - is that correct?

Mike:
Clarifying, tacticals for rest stops are alpha, beta, through foxtrot?
I like using APRS - would you prefer rest stop operators NOT add
the shriek, to avoid cluttering up your screen?
Do you have a preference as to reporting mechanics and medical -
onsite, arriving, or leaving?

And a comment, on something that may have tripped me up last year:
For many repeaters, you set your tone control to TSQL (tone for
both transmit and receive).  For NI4CE, it should be set to TONE (tone
on transmit only).  If set to TSQL, you probably won't hear anything
from the repeater, because your radio is requiring the tone on receive.

That is correct, tactical call signs for rest stops is Rest Stop A or Alpha, Rest Stop B or Bravo, etc.

Rest Stop operators DO NOT need to broadcast a shriek, only mobile units. I have rest stop locations already broadcasting out from NCS.

Yes, please report when a mechanic or EMS arrive and leave your rest stop.

If I'm not mistaken, NI45CE repeaters receive and transmit tone, but Pual can verify that one when he has a moment.
