I work uptown and currently ride the light rail every day. I would like to commute on bike but I was wondering, do you have any recommendations on safe places to lock up my bike where I won't have to worry about it being stolen?

I know there is parking by the at&t building plenty of bike parking in some of the parking decks.  The epicenter/ and new bank of America deck.

Some of the light rail stations actually have bike lock boxes, just not sure which ones.

If you are riding to the light rail and leaving your bike, there are lockers at stations south of uptown beginning at New Bern Station. Requires you to provide your own lock. There are bike racks at  stations north of new bern.

There are also bike lockers at  uptown transit center.

However, if you are bringing your bike with you uptown, best place is somewhere close to your destination. Many of the uptown parking garages have bike racks and although not all are located in the best spots, they are all out of the weather and seem to be very safe (many bikes left overnight and for extended periods at these racks).

Some buildings will allow you to bring a bike inside on a freight elevator if you want to bring to your office, but some offices and some buildings won’t.

With more specific info, someone one this list can provide detailed info on the best bike parking spot near your destination.

Great for you for wanting to ride to work.

The best way is to ride around to look at the locations to decide for yourself.  Bikes have been stolen Uptown so make sure you get a U lock and lock it properly.  Remove all your stuff.  I had a cheap yellow rain jacket stolen out of my bike when I left it out all day.

Which building are you in?

Here’s a link to a lot of bike parking.  If you know of more racks, submit them to get them added.

Are you looking for something N or S Tryon?

I've left my bike locked on Tryon Street to the racks several times, all day.

On occasion that works but I’d be more careful if you ride everyday and lock in the same place.

Thanks for all the replies!

I work in the Fifth Third Center on N Tryon.   I noticed that the 1BAC building has bike lockers and showers http://www.1bankofamericacenter.com/property-amenities.html

I used to work in this building, so I thought I might have access, but as it turns out I don't. Does anyone have experience with this? The "Bike Locker Room Waiver" on their site is a dead link, but I might call and see if I can get access

If you are an employee of Bank of America you do indeed have access to the bike lockers, showers and secured bike area in the Bank of America Corp Center Parking Garage on College between Trade and Fifth.  The person to talk to is Mark Stricker or Finessa Gardner.  The secured areas are linked to your key card.  I’ve copied Haley.  She should be able to send you contact info and a link to the form.  Let me know how it goes and I can help further.

Make sure you get a tough lock or 2.

Check out Hal Ruzal on you tube. Hal does some very entertaining
videos where critiques
people's bike locking.
