Hey Bike Decatur,
I was talking to a Marta bus driver yesterday and she said there was enforcement of drivers driving through the bike lane to pass or make a turn. I take my bike onto Marta everyday and that's what brought up the story. She also will not drive up to the curb to pick me up on Ponce because if she did, she would be blocking the bike lane.
Back to the bus drivers story, she was in traffic court (not her ticket) and a driver was there for a ticket, blocking a bike lane and illegal passing. I may be getting the exact ticket wrong but it was 2 violations.
I bring this up because there is enforcement. We could always use more. I would definitely support a letter. I hate to see what can happen if drivers keep doing this. Maybe some signs alongside the bike lanes. Maybe those plastic stands that are on top of turtles, not along the whole street bit at all intersections to discourage passing.
Just adding my thoughts and observations.
High Five!

I like the fact that it's covered; just becasue we may ride in a light rain, doesn't mean we want the bike to get rained on while we're at an event. Some Deklab libraries have put in bike parking about ten feet from a covered location, and it drives me crazy.
My biggest concern is that it's a long way from the rack to any door. Why is that? Bicyclists are as lazy as anyone else, wanting to avoid a long walk, and yet they put this some eighty feet or so from the door. The old racks were fifteen feet away. Why put it so far?

If there is any sort of wind the roof won’t do much to keep the rain off.
It will keep the noon day sun off the seat though.

§ New covered parking at Rec Center - thoughts? [3 Updates]
"Fred Boykin, Jr." <fbo...@bicyclesouth.com> Nov 13 09:42AM -0500
Hi Folks,
Anyone had a chance to look at the new covered bike parking they’re building at the Decatur Rec Center? The Decatur Metro site has a post (w/picture) about it and a few comments (most seem to deal with the fact that the parking construction might be killing
a nearby tree).

Your thoughts? Do you think it will work – keep the rain off, etc.?
Other observations?
