Let's not let bike share bikes disappear! Once we are past the pandemic we will also need to get an expanded bike share system here to replace Jump bikes!
Keep rolling,
Karen

AB 1286 threatens the very existence of shared micromobility
Dear friend,
We need your help to stop a dangerous bill. AB 1286 would kill bike and scooter share systems in California. The bill would require providers of shared bikes and scooters (whether a private company or a transit agency) to assume liability for damage and injury caused by no fault of their own, including by the rider's own negligence.
This bill comes up for a hearing next Tuesday, August 18. Email your senator today and tell them to vote NO on AB 1286.
Imagine if car manufacturers were held responsible for every crash, even when there was no equipment malfunction. That’s what AB 1286 asks of bike share providers.
This bill won’t make bike share riders safer. But it will make shared mobility options prohibitively expensive - or put them out of business completely.
Bike share is a convenient, safe, and equitable transit option for millions of Californians. Metro Bike Share members in LA have taken over 1 million rides. The Bay Wheels system in the Bay Area logged almost 160,000 rides in June 2020 alone. Micromobility systems provide essential last-mile transportation links. They are also one of the safest ways to get around during the pandemic.
Thank you for raising your voice to stop this bill!
Dave Snyder
Executive Director
P.S.We don’t need an attack on shared bikes and scooters. Instead we need to build on recent successes that expand shared bike systems into disadvantaged communities where the private companies won’t go. Please tell your senator to vote NO on AB 1286 so we can get more people on bikes!
