Cincinnati Bicycle Commuting Friends,

The 2010 U.S. Census figures for bicycle commuting were released today by the League of American Bicyclists.

I attach the Excel spreadsheet for the entire country released by the League.
The figures are by city within state.  Interestingly, the margin of error frequently exceeded the number of bicycle commuters for many cities nationwide.

Among Ohio cities, the census found the percentage of bicycle commuters versus those taking other forms of transportation to work was 1.4% for Dayton, 0.8% for Cleveland, 0.7% for Columbus, 0.4% for Toledo and Cincinnati, and 0.1% for Akron.    Caution must be advised in drawing any conclusions from a survey which such a high margin of error.

I don't know about the numbers, but I have been SEEING a lot more commuters.  I work in Norwood, and have seen a lot more fendered / panniered / bar bag / back pack  cyclists in the mornings than I did a couple of years ago.  Of course ANY is more than I saw a couple of years ago! But there seems to be 4 or 5 regulars at different times of the day, plus my son and me quite often.

Same here.  Three of us were waiting for the light to change, Madison at Torrence, the other night.  Three at Woodburn/Madison one morning, each going different directions. Jim

I see more people on bikes in the past year than I've seen in previous years.

Larry,

I have also been seeing more bike commuters in the Dayton Area within the last few years.

During the first 18 years of my 22 years of bike commuting, I rarely saw others using bikes to ride to work (although I knew there were others).   Now, I am able to join others pedaling to and from work.  It is a great improvement!
