URGENT – YOUR IMMEDIATE ACTION IS NEEDED! Contact your U.S. Representative Today to Save Bicycle and Pedestrian Funding
Dear Fraser,
In an unprecedented, serious threat to the future of bicycling in America, on Thursday, February 2 the U.S. House of Representatives Transportation Committee will consider a bill that proposes to:
-- eliminate all dedicated federal funding for bicycling projects
-- gut all of the programs and policies that help make bike riding practical and safe.
Powerful interests in Washington are trying to reverse 20 years of progress for transportation options and road safety. Their proposal won't save money, reduce the deficit, or move Americans more efficiently. They have singled out bike programs for drastic cuts. This is simply a bad idea that must be stopped NOW.
Thankfully, many influential members of Congress recognize the value of modest, cost-effective investments in bicycling. They plan to introduce the Petri-Johnson amendment Thursday to preserve these programs.
You can help today by asking your U.S. Representative to support the Petri-Johnson amendment. (You can find your Representative, review basic suggested text for your email, and send your note directly from this link.)
Read more about the proposed House transportation bill and the Petri-Johnson amendment here.
We must send a strong message that promoting bicycling is good transportation policy that provides benefits for all Americans. Please act now. This is a critical vote!
Thanks,
Tim Blumenthal
