Hi,

I've recently a position to work at the UC Hospital system. I am from
the Boston and am used to biking all year round, and have found it a
very good way to integrate exercise into my daily commute.

With that being said, I'd like to live in an area that is amenable to
biking to University Hospital. Without considering biking, the areas
that appeal to me already are Hyde Park, Oakley, Mt. Adams, and Mt.
Lookout. Are there certain neighborhoods out of these that are better
or worse for commuting into work?

I have found the PDF of the Cinci Bike guide online, and it seems that
there are blue (or preferred) bike routes from all of these
neighborhoods, however, I am not sure if certain routes are better
than others.

I also found this post from someone who is biking from Oakley to
Children's hospital to be helpful.

Any advice from folks would be appreciated. of course, I will have to
pay a visit myself and take a look at the various areas-I might even
bike around for a day to see what I'm able to do/not do.

Thanks in advance.

If you have not already done so give some thought to housing options in Clifton and Over The Rhine. Although this would drastically reduce your commute time and distance a key feature that distinguishes Cinci is it's topography. Quite a few more hills than the East Coast will make for a good workout!

That being said, I routinely bike from Oakley to NKY which takes me through downtown. You can rather easily get to University Hospital via Madison Rd. That is my main route when getting to or from Oakley.

Welcome to Cincinnati! I used to live in Boston and used my bike and the T exclusively. Cincy has a much smaller bike presence. Having said that, I commute by bike from Mt Lookout to Cincinnati Children's and take Observatory to Madison to MLK. At Reading Rd I divert onto the side streets (Harvey to Erkenbrecker) or because the road narrows a bit and the traffic around "pill hill" can be a bit aggressive. Good luck.

The Hyde Park, Oakley, and Mt Lookout (and nearby O'Brienville) have great cycling, walking, running subcultures... I commute by bike regularly from the Blue Ash area (NE neighborhood) to the VA Medical Center, next to University and Children's Hospital. I'm one of the original backstreet boys... Give me a backstreet no matter where I'm going... it's safe, traffic free and the locals love waving and saying hi as you cruise down their streets.
From Hyde Park, Oakley, Mt Lookout neighborhoods, getting over to University Hospital area --- the trick is getting over I-71... here's the 'secret route' with little to no traffic concerns or hassles.
Linwood Ave comes up from the Mt Lookout area into Hyde Park.(near Hyde Park Square... wave and say hi to all the early morning runners) When it crosses Erie Ave it becomes Shaw...take Shaw then do a right then quick left crossing Wasson and onto Woodlawn, when you cross Madison Rd this street becomes Millsbrae, take this all the way till it comes to Robertson at the T, go left and bang! over I-71. Most of the time you’ve got this (secret) overpass to yourself…follow Robertson cross Smith Ave. at light and it becomes Floral Avenue...follow till right onto Cleneay, cross Montgomery Rd and go through Xavier University campus (smile and wave to students) … out right onto Dana (dangerous traffic) then first left onto Victory Parkway then first right onto Lexington – up the short hill…(sprint up it for some extra cardio before work) cross Reading Road – go behind the Strip Mall and right onto Forest, (wave and say hi to your black brothers and sisters) (actually had a little boy ask me if I was Lance Armstrong... I said no, but I told him a lot of people make that mistake) then left on Washington, right on Rockdale, left on to Harvey, right onto Erkenbrecher, left onto Burnet … bang… welcome to University Hospital and all points beyond.
P.S. I think there is still a sunday morning ride from the Hyde Park Square. It's a ride hard or ride home alone kind of ride. Lots of local racers come out and try to drop each other on their way out to Morrow, Ohio and back.

I owe you all a great thank you for your responses. I Have looked and
various neighborhoods- and think that my favorite is Mt. adams.
However, in the responses no one seemed to bike that area? Are the
hill just too much?

Hills are a lot but come up via Eden park and it's by far the easiest. Congrats, excellent choice, and enjoy the new digs.

There are hills in Mt Adams but they aren't horrible. You should be
able to find a good commuter route to UC. It's short from there.
Oakley/hyde park/my lookout would get you more variety in your rides
and you could add Mt Adams to your commute if time allowed or you were
looking for variety.

Am I just the last to hear about this? This could be a major connector,
though I can imagine some real headaches as it crosses so many streets.

Not sure how it links opposite sides of the city, but it sounds like a great idea- a true city bike trail.  Check out their facebook page-link is given in the fox news article.
