Elizabeth “Libba” Cotten Birthday Celebration

Friday, January 5, 8:15 a.m.–10:00 a.m.

Happy New Year everyone!

Did you recently get some new winter gear for cycling that you want to try out? This Friday, we will give you a great opportunity to do so 😊.

Join the Town of Carrboro to celebrate Libba Cotten's Birthday, starting with a short bike ride that will include the Libba Cotten Bikeway, which will be decorated for her birthday. The events will be:

  • Short Community Bike Ride -- Riders will meet at 8:15 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at the public parking lot at 108 E. Main St. (the gravel lot across from Armadillo Grill). The bike ride will travel to the mural honoring Elizabeth Cotten at 111 N. Merritt Mill Road, and will end at the historical marker on E. Main Street. The ride will be led by members of the Carrboro Bicycle Coalition and the Bicycle Alliance of Chapel Hill (BACH).
  • Gathering at the Historical Marker on E. Main Street - Following the ride, join Mayor Barbara Foushee, NC Representative Allen Buansi, NC Representative Renée Price, Poet Laureate Liza Wolff-Francis, and community leaders for the reading of a proclamation honoring Elizabeth Cotten. HOT coffee and breakfast treats will be available. Happy Birthday, Libba!

Also, mark your calendars—next Friday, January 12, will be the first Cycle in for Coffee of 2024. Join other bicycle riders/lovers from 7:30 to 9 a.m. on the back patio at Open Eye Cafe.
