Hi Captains,
I hope you got the chance to enjoy the perfect weather we had this weekend (I was sick and got in zero miles!). As you probably know, safety is one of the top priorities of the City to Shore. Having that many riders on the roads of South Jersey requires us to do everything possible to make the ride as safe as possible. One thing we’re doing this year is the Group Riding Skills clinics we’re holding throughout the summer. I’ve e-mailed about that previously, so if you want more details, please contact me directly.
Another one of the vehicles we use to help achieve that level of safety is the Safety Ambassador program. Riders volunteer to set a safe example by obeying the rules of the road and to help out as needed when a situation arises. We ask that all teams have 1 Safety Ambassador for every ten riders on the team. Some of you do a great job of meeting that goal, some don’t. Obviously, we don’t penalize teams who don’t meet the SA requirement. However, we would like to do something to reward those teams that do. Here’s our dilemma: we don’t know what would motivate you and your teammates to get more involved with the SA program. We’ve brainstormed a few ideas (reduced registration fees the following year, free BBQ lunch or message for SA’s from teams meeting the 10% requirement, etc.), but we’re not sure that any of those are the answer. So we decided to ask you: what would motivate you to be more proactive in recruiting more SA’s from your team? What would motivate your teammates to become SA’s? We already give a token of appreciation to all SA’s and a plaque to each team that meets or surpasses the 10% level, but we would like to do something for the team at large.
What would it take? What would you like for your team should you reach the 10% level? The reward has to be something that appeals to the 100+ member large corporate team as well as the 15-30 member friends and family team (which make up the majority of our teams). Please send your ideas to me and we’ll see what we can do. Thanks for all your help.
