Hi Captains,
With warm weather just around the corner, I’m sure many of you are starting to think (if you haven’t already) about this year’s City to Shore Ride. We on the MS Committee are starting too. One big requirement we need help with is our sweep support.
I’m no sure if you realize it, but on Saturday and Sunday we have designated riders who are the last to leave the starting points. These dedicated volunteers are charged with helping to move along any people straggling or struggling at the back of the pack so that they finish by the cut-off time. They don’t need to do much other than to see if those riders are OK, encourage them to either ride a little faster (which is usually impossible!) or to at least take the SAG wagon to the next rest stop (to give their legs a little break).
The same group of people has been sweeping the ride for at least the last ten years. Needless to say, they have served the ride well and deserve a break. We’re looking for 4-6 people (2-3 for each day) who can take over for these volunteers. As I said, their main responsibility is looking after the people at the back; however, that means they themselves have to ride relatively slowly (but not alone if we get enough volunteers). I know you as captains have a lot on your plates, but I’m hoping you can reach out to your teams and see if anyone is interested. If someone would like more info, they can contact me directly. Thanks for any help you can offer.
