Hi Captains,

In our continuing effort to make the City to Shore the safest bike tour possible, we will be offering a number of Group Riding Skills clinics over the next few months.  The curriculum was developed by the League of American Bicyclists in cooperation with the National MS Society and is structured to help the casual cyclist ride more safely and comfortably in a large group (like a typical charity ride).  The course will be taught by League Certified Instructors (LCIs), most of which are C2S riders as well.  The course includes some instruction and a lot of on-bike drills and will be offered free of charge to registered C2S and PA Dutch riders.

We are still establishing the schedule for the clinics, and once we finalize we will share it with the Teams.  However, we do need a little help from you.  We are looking for potential sites in several different areas to hold the clinics.  The ideal site would be a large empty parking lot that has easy access and large open areas (not a lot of medians or islands) where we can run the on-bike drills.  Rest rooms and easy access to an eating place would be nice but aren’t a hard requirement.  We already have a site in South Jersey but are looking for possible locations in Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery Counties.  If you know of any such locations, can you please forward them to me.  We’ll make the contacts to try and secure the location, we just need some potential sites identified.  Thanks.

Try Giant Food on New Falls road Middletown Pa 19057.  Vacant building.  or Super fresh on Rt13/413 Bristol Pa.  Commerce Square.  Giant is a huge promoter of MS events.

Greg,

Sounds like a couple of good spots.  Can you confirm that both are vacant on the weekend? You said one was a vacant building, so I guess we are safe to assume that the parking lot would be empty.  The Super Fresh might be another matter, is that also a vacant site or is it an operating store?  Prefer to stay away from any cars or other vehicles if at all possible for this particular class.

Both sites are very vacant.  Super fresh is within a strip mall, however I do not see an issue with huge traffic.  we may be able to use a tape or flag area to maintain safe usage.  might have to see what if?   if it becomes a considered site.  let me know.  The giant is really ideal.  completely closed off to through traffic.

Sounds like the Giant building would be the best of the two.  The Group Riding Course has two different space requirements.  The first is a long straight flat area say about 100 feet be 50 feet for doing skills like a quick stop, rock dodge, and instant turn.  The second is a large circular (somewhat) oblong, or square, course where you have the folks riding three abreast as if they were in a large crowd on a group ride or event.  This second course should be large enough that you can ride for a few hundred feet without having to make a 90 degree turn.

We will have to take a look at that site and see how it is.  Sounds good so far.  The second course could even go around a building if it was paved all the way around....Do you have contacts?

I will contact Dan Warfield at Giant corp.  He is team Captain for Carlisle, Pa team.  I will get the low down to see if there is any issues.  my Question would be time allotted for event?  And.  do we have waivers of liability?

Greg

Lot size is at least about 120x120 with a side lot of  60X80 if I had to guess.  opposite side lot is approx the same.   Ample parking is avail in the next lot over so we do not use Clinic area.

Greg,

The class would require about 3 hours.
We get the insurance/waivers through the League of American Bicyclists.  Whichever LCI runs the course at that site would have to apply to the League for the Insurance.  We would need to know at that time specific information for the property owner to be included in the insurance rider for the day.

Contacted real estate division of Giant.
We have been given a go, if we can provide a date before the site is to be leased out.  We will need to provide the insurance info and the like.  so let us get together and make this happen.  I took the liberty to think this may happen within the next month or so.   if we have something to provide to the bike shops, YMCA, local workout clubs ect.,  now we can have them promote the clinic as well
