I'm sure that every team has different standards for this kind of
thing, but I was wondering if any more experienced captains have some
good guidelines for sponsorship on team jerseys?

I captain a second year team (Team Screens 'N' Spokes), and I've got a
few teammates who think they have some connections for sponsorship.
What have you guys done in the past? I've seen logos on the back
pockets, on the pack, etc. Do you have a pay structure for where the
logos go? Any recommendations?

We're not a huge team, we'll probably max out at less than 30 riders
(last year we had 20), but any help or suggestions people have would
be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Sam

Sam-

Our Team is a company based team and we submit requests for sponsorship
out to various connections within our industry. Typically in a letter
format we indicate our purpose and have three levels of sponsorship, of
which, the company logo is then placed on the jersey, varying in size
based on the sponsorship. This then helps pay for shirts and the rest
is donated to MS from the Team. It has been very successful in the past
and as a thank you, we have t-shirts made up that look like the jersey
for the sponsors.

Thanks for the response John. I assume you guys put your sponsors on
your jerseys? Do you limit them to the back pockets? or actually on
the back of the jersey? elsewhere?

Thanks again,
Sam

We have been using Velowear for the last couple of years and you can
place logos on the back of the shirt. They have an interactive program
on-line where you can design your own jersey.

Sam,

I might have mentioned in a previous e-mail that we went to a "standard
jersey" a couple of years ago, so we don't have sponsor names on them.
I put an ad in the local newspaper listing the sponsors.

However, when I was putting sponsors' names on the back (full back above
the pocket) these are the guidelines I sent out in my sponsor letters:

Minimum of $35.00: Your company name will appear on the back of the
shirt.

For donations of $100.00 or more: We'll put a replica of your logo on
the shirt. The size of the logos will depend on the available space.

For a minimum donations of $300.00: The company will get a prime
location on the jersey, such as a sleeve.

For a minimum donations of $500.00: The top donating company will get
"Top Billing" on the shirt back as well as under the team logo on the
front of the shirt. Both locations will include the words "Sponsored
By".

As a side note, if you put sponsor names on the jersey back, it is good
to encourage your riders to pin their rider number on the pocket so the
sponsor names are visible.

Thanks a lot Jeff, this is exactly the kind of info I was looking
for. I guess, considering that riders will have to pin their number
somewhere, that using the back of the jersey and the pockets might not
be the best strategy? Sleeves could work though. I like the idea of
smaller logos for $100 donations. Also, as far as the donations are
concerned, did this money go towards the cost of jerseys (with
anything left over being donated to the MS Society?) or did your team
front the costs of jerseys?

Thanks again,
Sam
