It’s that time of year to think of Taco Tour again. Unfortunately, the rising tide of delta variant Covid infections renders a large group event an unwise activity.  As we did last year, we are declaring September the month of tacos and encouraging individual Tours rather than a large group event.  So, ride singly or in small groups to your destinations. Support your local taquerias!

Below, you will find the rules of this year’s event (not many), prizes (pint glass), and our recommendations for where to get local tacos.

  1. Ride your bike to 5 or more taquerias in September.  You can ride to all your stops in a single day, or you can ride to a different one on separate days.  Just so all rides are sometime in September, the official (not really) month of Taco Touring.

  2. Eat at least one taco at each stop. Of course you can eat as many as you want in addition.

  3. Post up pictures of you, your bike, and your tacos!  Please tag Bike Ypsi, the taquerias, and use #tacotourypsi2021

After the end of September, any rider who has gone to 5 or more Taquerias, can claim a pint glass with the Taco Tour logo on it. Details on the pickup later.  Out of courtesy, please wear a mask when entering the taquerias. This is for your safety, the safety of the workers and for the safety of any other customers (not all taquerias require masks, or use masks). Please note: the open days/times are subject to change.

The Taquerias:

            1. La Marqueza - 1396 E. Michigan Ave. Ypsilanti.  Open at 11am to 9pm or 10pm daily.
They have several meat tacos, a fish taco, shrimp taco and a veggie taco.

2.  Dos Hermanos - 412 W. Michigan Ave. Ypsilanti.  Open 9am to 9am daily.

They have Barbacoa daily (beef, pork, chicken) and on weekends have cactus (nopales) for a veggie taco.

3.  La Torre - 1525 Washtenaw Ypsilanti.  Open 10am to 8pm daily.

Many traditional meats, shrimp, fish, chorizo with egg and a vegetarian, with cheese or without cheese by request.

4. Miny’s Mexican Restaurant - 2866 Washtenaw Ave Ypsilanti.  Open 10:45am to 7pm daily. They have all the traditional meats, as well as fish, shrimp and a vegetarian with potatoes, peppers and onions.  NOTE: they are closing for remodeling in September, dates uncertain as of yet. Nearby though, is the next choice.

5. Antonio’s Coney Island - 2896 Washtenaw Ave. Ypsilanti. Open 10am to 7pm. Closed Mondays.
They serve a Honduran style chicken taco, and by request will serve a nice vegetarian taco that is not listed on the menu.

6. TMAZ Taqueria - 3182 Packard St.  Ann Arbor open 11am to 11pm all days except Sunday.
They serve traditional meats, fish, seafood, and four varieties of vegetarian: grilled veggies, potato and poblano pepper, black beans, or marinated mushrooms.

7. Taco King - 2231 W. Liberty St. Ann Arbor. Open 10am to 10 pm daily.

Located inside a grocery store. Menu includes many meat tacos, no veggie variety listed.

8. Chela’s - 693 S. Maple Rd. Ann Arbor. Open 10:30am to 8pm daily.  Ph: 734-332-6055

Menu includes several meats, fish, and 3 veggie options: grilled peppers and squash, potato or strips of grilled poblano (rajas).

9. TMAZ - West 2529 Dexter Ave. Ann Arbor. Open 11am to 10pm except Sundays.

Menu includes several meats, fish, and 3 veggie options: grilled peppers and squash, potato or strips of grilled poblano (rajas).

Suggested routes:

To reach the west side of Ann Arbor take Cross/Packard/Eisenhower all the way to S. Main, then north Main to Scio Church, then west to the south end of Maple. Take this north on to Liberty for Chelas’s and Taco King, and further north to Dexter to reach TMAZ west.

Liberty or Dexter will return to downtown Ann Arbor. Between Ann Arbor and Ypsi the B2B trail will take you from one downtown area to the other.

In Ypsi, Forest and Cross are good east-west streets to get to most of the other places.

We will miss you this September and look forward to seeing you on the road!

Ride safe,

Your Bike Ypsi Team
