At its March 2nd meeting, City Council will vote on Resolution No. 2021-046, requesting that the Michigan Department Of Transportation (MDOT) pursue a design for reconfiguration of the intersections of Huron/Cross and Hamilton/Washtenaw to improve overall safety, especially for pedestrians and bicyclists.

The suggested plan would eliminate the north Huron turn lane to westbound Cross and reconfigure the Huron/Cross intersection into a conventional intersection. Likewise, the dedicated eastbound Washtenaw turn lane to southbound Hamilton would be eliminated and turn the Washtenaw/Hamilton intersection into a conventional intersection. The Washtenaw/Hamilton reconfiguration could also include added pedestrian and bicycle improvements.

For more on the proposed design work for both intersections visit the City Council March 2nd agenda page at  https://www.cityofypsilanti.com/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/_03022021-1549 and when on the agenda page, under item VIII  (RESOLUTIONS/MOTIONS/DISCUSSIONS), click on the link associated with item “E”, Resolution No. 2021-046, (2021-046 – Pdf).

The public is welcome to give their comments on the proposed intersection changes during the Public Comment period at the start of the City Council meeting. This meeting will be online and to participate, please reference the meeting announcement on the City web page at https://www.cityofypsilanti.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=1280.
